IncuCube Bator

Well I am happy that I finally have it, as I just did an egg autopsy on the Ameraucana (?) eggs that I had shipped just for the beta test. I had 3 definite hatchling...2 that died early on. The 3 were beautiful and one had blue legs!! I am so sad about them, they were only a few days away from hatching too. I didn't even think I had one because I could not see movement in the eggs, heck, even the eyes were indistinguishable to me.

I could tell that there was a humidity problem as two of them had very tight membranes close to their feathers but the other was just perfect without sign of humidity problem.

I have an order of EE eggs coming in (hopefully today) and will fire up the new IncuCube today to get everything up to snuff.

I placed 12 EE eggs inside the IncuCube last night and so far everything looks good. The temperature is even at 100 and the humidity holds at 52% providing I do not open the lid. The only problems that I see thus far are:

The Thermometer/Hygrometer are too large to use when using the egg turner.

The arm of the Egg Turner seems to bend forward - either in shipping or with the weight of the eggs - but I LOVE how gentle the turner works. No more clunk like from my hovabator.

The other issue is where the Egg Turner wires go? I originally placed them sideways through the staggered opening of the lid/body but that places the wires directly under the heating/fan element. I then simply placed them abit loser so the wires are almost directly over the eggs - giving more space between the heating/fan element and the wires.

So far so good....

I am going out today to purchase a new Exo Terra Combometer for the IncuCube...I'll use the Incubator Warehouse thermometer/hygrometer with my hovabator since I will be filling that one up with 13 EE eggs.

Just set 11 eggs and the Egg O Meter in the last hole so it sits at the egg level. It seems to track the temp well. With the turner in I find the wire for the motor to be almost too short to use the thinest wires where the seams come together and main power wires almost too thick. Still pondering if I should leave it allone and just watch the temps. Posting pics later tonight as they are on the camera still.

I found the same issue too, I just laid it as flat as possible and taped down the side that was more open than the other. I also found a much a better thermometer/hygrometer...far superior. It's the Zilla Terrarium Thermometer/Hygrometer with two probes.

Temperature and Humidity are steady and I have no complaints thus far......hopefully the other two Rev 2 participants will post as well....

I was not really aware that when I "upgraded" to the egg o meter that it did not also monitor the humidity. An oversite on my part really. I stopped at Walmart tonight and found a reader that has a 30 ft cord with reader on the end so that fit well and I did not loose any room inside for another piece of "something" Currently inside I have the turner and the egg from the temp unit sitting in an egg cup of the turner and then the tiny reader/probe for the digital Thermometer/hydrom. I like the fact that the reader units themselves are outside of the cube.

I run the humidity at 35 to 45% from the start I candle @ 10 days checking the size of the air cell also if it is too big (I go by the sticky chart) I up the humidity a little bit then at 14 to 15 days I keep at 45% at lock down I then bump it to 65-70% and wait. I really go by the air cell in the egg and I look at them @ 7, 10, 14 days I try not to look at them more (I do find that difficult) my humidity where I live is low even though we have a marine layer in the AM when it rains my house humidity is 35%.....

I used the instructions that came with the Incu-Cube and filled the two bowls with water. The probe for the reader says humidity is between 35/40 % when I check it. I guess I am confused on how to increase the humidity when I need too. I did find a good doc in the knowbase on dry hatching and have been reading and rereading but nothing beats hands on experience from a fellow hatcher

In one of the pics you can see the egg (reader ) sitting in the turner. So far I have been very happy with it's reading. The temp/humidity reader I added last night is saying the same temp within a .01 - .03 of the Egg O Meter.

I've had mine running a few days now and the temp. has been steady. Changes a little, but less than a degree. Humidity changes some, but stays between 50 and 55 with just the little bowl filled. I just need to figure out how to mount the temp./humid. reader then put some eggs in.

I found the fan is a little closer to one side over the other and turned the turner around so the motor/wires are a little bit farther away from it.

Mine came with 5 cups I fill 2 when I start then fill all 5 when I lock down I still need to add water to get it up I added holes use a syringe to add the water it goes on top of the saran wrap that I have in there to keep it cleaner
