How many chicks do you expect to hatch? That brooder won't be big enough for more than 6 day olds.

There is 8 eggs in the bator there was 14 but 1 got caught in the egg turner 3 were unfertile and one died early so I am going to try and hatch out as many of them 8 as possible the rest of them are all doing good and I want to get a few silkies so ey aren't going to be in there very long

Why would getting Silkies make any difference in how you are going to brood these chicks that are due to hatch?
Are you hoping that the Silkies adopt these chicks?

Ok I got he brooder ready so what do u guys think the bulb is a 60 watt and there is paper over e wood chips for the first couple of days and those are there Freda no water tomarrow is day 18 so hopefully something soon

Paper on top of the wood chips? Paper towel or newspaper?

I could be wrong, but i think newspaper gives rise to splayed legs...? Someone correct me if I'm wrong!

Newspaper is too slippery. Use paper towels instead.

Ok i will try it thanks that's the last thing I need to deal with is trying to fix a fragile little things legs I'd be afraid of making it worse

I've never heard of the possibility of chicks eating shavings.... Is that a danger?
