Hello, I am new to this forum and was motivated to post because I'm having issues with my Indian Runner Ducks dying and can't pinpoint the culprit.

I had 14 ducks, now fully-feathered and 3 months old yet 3 have died today. My first concern, will Indian Runner Ducks trample each other to death? I see these ducks move in one massive unit and often times trampling each other to get away from me the moment I enter their pen. I never anticipated they'd be so afraid of me or any human but it is what it is. I'm also feeding Kalmbach Non-GMO Utility Feed and have not noticed any niacin deficiency symptoms. Thank you for any help you can provide!

I am so sorry about you Runners. They are skiddish and that is mostly their nature. But I've had Runners since 2016 and haven't ever had them trample each other. Not saying it couldn't happen though. Have you thought about sending one off for a necropsy? For 3 to die in one day sounds like there might be an illness.
Notice anything else off about them besides being afraid?

Thank you for the feedback. I've noticed nothing else aside from them being utterly terrified of me every time I enter their pen. I have seen ducks get trampled by the mob when this happens and I'm wondering if it's frequent or severe enough to injure ducks and lead to their ultimate death? As far as illness, I'm going to inspect their livers to see what they look like. Otherwise, the other ducks I have seem to be in good condition.

I'm wondering if you have an update on the cause of death? I'm doing a bit of research on Indian runner ducks because I'm thinking of adding just a couple to my flock of chickens. I'm a little lost on whether I need to build a duck house or can they sleep in the giant coop I have? I'm sure that's not your purview but I'm wondering if you found the cause of your poor ducks dying.

I'm so sorry. I started off with 2 indian runner one drake one hen. Queenie went broodie and hatched 6 babies. 2 died when they got trampled from cheif because they are so scared of everything. They now come up to me when I sit to give a treat but they don't actually come up to me, when I stand they take off. I wish I had some advice but all I really know about indian runner ducks is they are scared of everything.

My neighbor has her duck and chickens in the same coop if that helps. It took them a bit to accept the duck, but after the duck's mate died, she began hanging with the chickens.
