Can Indian runners be out in the cold I've already lost one and I'm pretty sure it's because of the cold but I'm not sure please help. ( it's -3 where I am)

Mine come out first thing but don't stay long before going back inside it will be -2 in the morning with wind blowing hard. If you have already lost one you may want to keep them inside with food and water till tempos moderate. Mine haven't done too bad but I am thankful they have on their own gone back into their house to get out of the wind. No heat inside the house just shelter.
With the frigid temps we have had this year even some of my Muscovy's have been spending most of the day inside. chickens too. I also have wind blocks up in different spots outside so they can hunker down if they want.

Indian Runner don't have much body fat at all which makes them more susceptible to the frigid temps and their upright stance doesn't help either. If you have a way to protect them from the elements then by all means do what you can.

@Amiga keeps her Runners and other breeds in a walk out basement Hopefully she'll give some good advise also.

This morning with 4" of snow on the ground wind blowing in and temps in single digits my Ducks Runners included only came out for like 5 Min went right back inside. I am very proud of them for making this choice on their own.
I usually don't put out food and water inside because they are so messy but with the temps we have had this year and them spending so much time inside because of it I figured out how to keep the mess to a minimum and hopefully in a few days when temps moderate again they will be out and about as usual and food and water will be out as well.

My Runners and Buffs are eight years old. I am cautious with exposing them to bitter cold. I mean less than 20F. And that is what we have had nearly every day for a month or so. I let them go outside if it is above 10F. They often will not walk out the door. Or they turn around in a minute or so. My white mallard and Khaki Rouen mix are most cold hardy, but they stay with the flock. The basement barn is around 40F. I have watering stations, and change their water three times a day.
