Still working on our portable coop. For the part covered by a tarp, does the tarp color matter? I'm thinking of getting a tarp but it is black. Would the chickens get too hot under it?

Well I had a shipped order of 24 eggs go in to the incubator...looks like I have 13-14 moving and rolling (day 10) and I received 7 eggs from tbridegroom from this page that they couldn't fit into their bator and hated to waste...just candled them and looks like 5 are already moving at day 5 the other 2 were rolling air cells. I did take 2 and crack open that looked clear and they were unfertile so I feel more comfortable removing the "no go's" tomorrow. Used mt phone to take some pick of the little bugers rolling around!

So I stopped back in Big R today to see if they would price match on TSC sale price for egg turners (which they will NOT do!) and noticed they already sold out of chicks! Less than 24 hrs is all they had those chicks!

Well I think I maybe going crazy with buying hatching eggs! Not only do I have blue laced wyandottes, and Easter eggers chicks coming, I also have ordered 12 silver birchen Marans eggs, 6 splash marans eggs, 12 silkies eggs, 6 true araucana eggs, and hoping to get crested legbar eggs, LF dark cornish eggs, and possibly light brahmas eggs! I'm HOPING this will curb my need for more chicks this year and am wanting to be able to brood them all together (chicks I purchased as well as eggs ill hatch) since the eggs will be due to hatch the same day as the chicks arrive.

on day ten if it is clear you will know!! the light shines straight through. i pitch all clear eggs at day ten, on the same token i agree with the above. if they don't smell you are fine up until lock down. i wouldn't keep any after lock down for the fear of an explosion.


speaking of incubating eggs who all is incubating rightnow and what do you have. my 27 eggs go into lock down tomorrow evening with a projected hatch date wednesday 2/13/13. mixed mutts is what i'm hatching!!! my favorite kind!

Im incubating right now. Most of mine are mixed as well.

I have silkies ready to pip any day. This week I put more silkies and wcb bantam polish in the incubator. Still waiting for some of the others to start to lay.

I want some more wcb polish!!! You have any extra eggs. Are they true breed?

Where are you buying all these eggs. I want to buy some eggs but hate paying all the shipping cost. LOL

I am having some shipped that I bought on eBay (birchen marans) but the seller is from southern indiana. I'd like to get cream legbar from babymakes6 if she can get enough eggs this week, silkies/showgirls from Little Ameraucana Mom and hoping LF Cornish and brahma if they are laying as well. Also did a swap for the Araucana and silkies from a member that is shipping. Splash Marans are coming from a neighbor. I will definitely have extra chicks for sale including a couple barred rocks and RIR from Meyers that I needed to order to hit 15 min chicks to ship in march.
