INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

Shawna- those prices sound good. The older the chicken the less it is worth! Going from CL pricing. Too bad you are not closer to me I'd take some. Good luck.

Leah- what are you sprouting? Oats? Barley? Etc?? I would love to do this for my Bantys since they can't free range.

Farker- I use tarps too. I have found them on sale at Menards. I don't have a Norhtern tool close by.

Goodb- way to go!!! Give them extra treats!!!
Dried mealworms are to chickens what crack is to an addict! Those girls will pull my glove to try to get me spill the worms. They've jumped to try to grab the cup out of my hand and they've even flown on my knees and shoulders as I was sitting so they could be first in line. Even at 25 degrees. So crazy!

mixing my two of my 3 RIR roosters in with the rest of the non breeding flock. Most of the flock is young pullets and the roosters have been fine with them the past 2 days when I have been checking multiple times to make sure there was no fighting. But tonight will be the first night the roosters are roosting with them. I'm hoping all goes well. It would make for some interesting chicks in a layer barnyard flock if I can get everyone to play nicely.

I have a BA rooster and one hen of his breed...4 EE hens, 5 RIR hens, 4 Red stars and 4 BO hens and one Partridge Rock hen. My chicks will be the mutts of the town!

Speaking of meal worms, I've found that Lowes has the best price. 1.25# for $15.

That's where I started getting mine too. Best price around.

Just FYI - all the dried mealworms are imported from China. From what I understand you can't get US grown dried mealworms (you can get 'em live from the US though). I always have a bit of a twinge when I buy them wondering what they may have been fed. (Being from the country that had lead in baby formula and other unsavory things we've all heard about it makes me wonder

I went out tonight to put aprons on a few more girls. I have 5 of them on now. I have 4 more to put on them. I looked at the temp in the coop and it was 19 degrees with 16 percent humidity. I have the window cracked, but I was worried about drafts. The humidity is pretty low, so I think they are okay there. I have sand and about 6 inches of straw on the floor. It is a 4x8 coop. It isn't insulated. There are 11 adult chickens and 3, 9 week olds in there. Will they stay warm enough?

Hi guys! It's been several months since I've been on here!

Since I've been off, I've had the chance to move into Lafayette into a new subdivision. I know to most of you on here that doesn't sound like good news, but I am ecstatic. It's part of the "Neighborhood Revitalization Project" which pretty much means providing affordable, but good, housing in the city. It's hard to describe fully, and it has a lot of restrictions, but mainly, I can't have my chickens!

So I'd like to sell them, but I'm not sure what I should sell them for. I figured I would post them for sale on here because I know that the majority of people on here won't try to rip me off!

I have 11 laying hens if I have counted correctly and I get between 6-8 eggs/day. I know that sometimes chickens slack off in the winter, but mine haven't, if anything, they've laid more. They're weird.

I have
*1 ISA Brown
*1 EE
*3 4-H Show chickens (Banty OEG I believe)
*2 White Silkies
*4 Standard x Banty
*2 Feathered Feet Roosters, very docile.

All the full banties lay small white eggs, the X's lay medium light brown eggs. The were all born between March and August of this year and I have tons of baby pictures of them. I was wanting somewhere between $7-9 for them, but I wasn't sure if that was too high. Anyway, I can be reached on here or at 765-601-1186 if anyone wants them.
ShawnaScott ~ Good to hear from you! Didn't you get married? Guess that's why you moved . . . anyway, I am sorry you can't have chickens-- did you know that you can in nearby West Lafayette? I sent your post to a recent new member Dex Holla who lives in West Lafayette and is interested in chickens. I would personally suggest packing your bags and moving a stone's thrown away West where you can have chickens!

I do agree, though, that Neighborhood Revitalization areas are a great idea, and are typically very cool places to live.
