INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

Day 1 is done for Dads tests. Cath went well, slight blockage in one bypass but the main one is CLEAR and all are still strong.
His bypasses were done in 1986, Dr was impressed. We have a new problem, however. Bloodwork is showing issues in kidney function.
Dr stated "he isn't a candidate for dialysis quite yet, but.. we will be monitoring closely going forward."
Spoke with his nurse more at length, he was dehydrated when he was admitted this morning.
More tests tomorrow, now they are keeping him til friday, at least. Will be calling VA caseworker regarding dialysis next week.
Hope when the time comes, It can be same days/times for both of them.
I will be watching him a lot closer from now on too.

Oooh yes DO GO to the Bloomington show! That is in my backyard! We have one in March and one in September.
Sorry to just jump in here like I belong;-)
Great list racinchickins!! I have only had chickens for three years and still have a lot to learn, but I jumped right in and now have six silkie pens, a d'uccle pen, and a small flock of egglayers consisting of Ameraucanas, FBCM, barred rocks, and a pair of white leghorns. They are all together now and I separate them in the spring for hatching;-)
All deppends on timing and how busy I am! I want to go, hope it all works out so i can.

Anyone needing a new coop? I wish this was closer! Good price and looks pretty nice.

And.....I have tolbunts hatching! I believe 2 are out already. Don't see any other pips but when I candled them prior to going into lockdown, several of them didn't look as developed as the others. So not sure if my incubator wasn't keeping good temps or what. I'll have to play around with it this spring, better yet, would just love to buy a sportsman and just hatch in my current cabinet bator. I hope I hatch all pullets lol!

...including blurb below about my daughter Meredith and friend whose art installation was the only one out of approx.50 recent art exhibits to be chosen by yelp.com to include in their event:

Step into the art installation photo space by artists Meredith Haddan and Chelsea Kruse known as "White Room: An Installation of Energy" to capture your sleek holiday poses.
Unfortunately, I won't be able to attend(!), but we did attend the art show.

wish I had $350!!! my girls would love it cause I could put a light in there and a heated waterer. There heated waterer is outside right now because it is too tall to fit in the coop. They do have a waterer in the coop with them just not heated

so far everyone is weathering the temps pretty well. They DO NOT like the snow but the pen is covered and I have a tarp over the west and north sides to cut wind and the coop faces north into the pen but the window is on the south side so they do get sun. When it comes out!!!

Hope everyone is well and keep warm...just four months til spring!!!!

I just want to thank everyone for the well wishes. For my mom and me. Moms appt went well. They are going to try something to make her prosthetic to work better for her. It's 4 years old and causing sore spots on her leg. If that doesn't work, they will get her a new one. Tomorrow's appt is with her eye dr. She's diabetic and legally bling. So not really expecting much there. Friday is the appt for her follow up from the stint they put in right before thanksgiving. That's the the one I'm worried about. She needs valve replacement, but she is not a canidate for surgery. So not much they can do for her. That's my facing reality day. And I don't want to.

Saying prayers for all of us who are having parents with health problems. This is so hard.

On a happier note, I can't wait to try one of our chickens, so excited!

Deb

Okay guys, my coop temp as of a half hour ago was 16 degrees with 16% humidity. That would be fine, except there is frost on the inside of the windows. No frost on the chickens though. I have a window cracked in there, but I didn't want to let anymore cold air in than I had too. Any thoughts?

hogster/Deb ~ Glad that you checked in with us! Hope you’re taking care of yourself as well as your mom! I guess as far as your fall, you’re lucky that you didn’t crack your head on some ice.

I remember the days not too long ago when I was regularly at the doctor’s office with a parent or in-law. It’s so difficult to experience a parent aging, and there are so many aging-related things to take care of besides the parent. You and jchny/Janet are both dealing with a lot especially at this time of year-- between the holidays and the terribly cold weather, it must be difficult.

Btw, what breed are “meaties”? I had to chuckle (since I’m a chicken-pet person) when you said you couldn’t wait to taste one of your chickens! It was a little startling at first. Haha! I also loved the description of your Tom Turkey retreating to the coop!-- as though he's thinking, "Wake me when it's spring."
racinchickins ~ You are on the ball! When I catch up on everything else (like putting decorations on the lighted tree that’s been up for a week), I’ll take time for reflection. Your process of listing what you’ve learned and making plans for next year is an inspirational example for all of us!
