INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

I'm about 20 mikes from my store and another store. So i can go to either to shop although I almost always buy from my store. That being said, I do compare prices as I can get mulch cheaper at the other store due to it being in a different market. And since is considered a commodity product, my store never price matches it for me. So I don't always get the good deals! Lol

local tree trimmers will give you tree trimmings for free. They do need to sit for a week or so to let the leaves dry out. If you can find a small time local stump grinder, those are the best mulch / wood chips. Leah's Mom posted about it a long time back as she used the trimmings to fill her run. After getting some, I have to say the free trimmings are great. So many uses. Lots of manual labor though moving the wheel barrel and all.

The fire department might also have free mulch. the greenwood one does.

I will be messing around on the members list tonight, hopefully. If anyone wants to be added (I got your info minmin!), please send me a pm with county, city if you'd like, breed, variety (gold laced, silver penciled, buff, ect) and note if you breed that breed/variety. I'd gladly put you on the list!

For any existing member, please let me know if you have any changes to your list.

Anyone is more than welcome to send me this info anytime, just thought I'd make a public announcement as well.
Thanks! I need to update mine badly....

Well, my fodder is growing! Lol. I thought I had killed it as it dries out while at work on the second say, but it's doing great! Just started another pan. The first own looked like I used too much seed, so i cut back on the second tray. See how it goes! If anyone is interested in trying, it is very easy to do. I just ordered the seed, purchased the black seed starting trays at big R for $1.50 a tray, poked holes on one side and placed soaked seed in tray. I have it setting on a tote to catch the water that drains out. I just spray it with water several times a day. I've rotated them so the other side is lifted as one side was growing a lot faster than the other.

Nice! Looks perfect, I ran into that too, wound up moving them away from the window so the growth was more uniform. Your chickens wont mind it tho!
I did finally get the rest of my seed ordered, need to do my bags... someday! I may just do trays again.

My DH did not check the nest after I left for work this morning so I came home to two seemly frozen eggs. They appear to be intact - can I just let them thaw and use them?

Quote: I'm less than 120 miles from Brad and still my local lowes is stingy with their sales. But it is good to hear my store is not the only one. It must be how the stores are divided into regions.
Agreed, mine is rarely as cooperative. I have seen some good year end deals tho!
Hello Fellow Hoosiers!

New to the group and kind of new to this whole chicken thing. Have had mine since Easter, bought 10 chicks and still have 8(didn't clip their wings in time and my neighbors dog got two as soon as they flew the coop). I'm concerned about the frigid cold we have coming up, they have a really good coop and I have read not to give them a heat lamp. Any other suggestions? Of course they are getting more hay and bedding, just curious if there are any other tricks.
Also, they stopped laying eggs all of a sudden about a week ago. Is the lack of sunlight to blame, or is there something I can do to get them back in business?

Thanks much!

Lighting can have an effect on laying. Mine had stopped for about a month, and have just begun to lay again.
Sorry to hear of the lost chicks, it does happen often with dog! What breed are your chickens?
