INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

Thank you!

A small bantam mixed flock for me:
2 silkies
2 Barred Rocks
2 Easter Eggers!

TONS of excited kids here.  Even hubby is coming around. I think I am most excited about the silkies, which is funny bc they were my last choice...but once I picked them I fell in love.
You are welcome to use any pictures of my silkies.

DW out of surgery now. So far, the total shoulder replacement was a success. Wait until the pain meds wear off and we'll see what she says then.
Thanks to all for the well wishes and good vibes!

Thanks. I added myself to the map.

I love the icons with the county in red, but I don't have any chickens yet!
Evening. Totally new to chickens, but have been reading up on them for years. Pretty excited...we are "expecting" six bantam babies in May!

Never think its ignorant! Good question, I didn't know either until I started researching the milk breeds.
They have to be "freshened", aka bred annually. I chose Oberhasli because of their look and personality.
Nubian was my 2nd choice. I looked into nigerian dwarf, but they didn't fit my needs.
I plan to keep 1-2 more does, and just sell the rest. Goats are very cheap and easy to keep.
And like a dog, they bond to you! I love my oldest doe, Sugar. She will fall asleep next to me with her head on my leg

Sophie is shy, even tho she was born here.

Haha It won't take long once your DH sees those chicks and starts staring at "Chicken TV" He will be smitten.
I didn't know BR and EE came in bantam size. I have one of each in LF and they both lay the largest and nicest eggs-- and my EE's is the prettiest of course. Silkies have grown on me since I've been on this thread (around a year now). I am hoping to get a couple of them in the future. I will get your avatar to you tomorrow.

Had an interesting day Sunday. While we were sending roosters off to freezer camp, DH noticed a little beagle mix by our driveway.

Terrified, confused and just tiny.
Well, he loves little dogs, went and scooped her up.
Today we were happy to find the owner via facebook!!!
The poor guy was crying and I thought her eyes would pop he was hugging her so hard.
Its nice to have a happy ending to some of these situations.

ok the hen that wont stand, she is defiantly broody. never heard of one going this far. ya think she would at least go out to feed.but NO she has to be a pain in my butt. So I too the feed sack lining out and the pine, and replaced it with chicken wire. I hate that but maybe it will get her out of this broody state. To dang cold for this I wouldn't think hen would go broody in the winter???? Leave it to me to have an odd ball, guess that's why our farm name is MissFit farm huh? lol hope this works. if anyone has any other suggestions I would love to hear them. Her constant yelling is getting on DH's last nerve, and no one in the house is getting any sleep. and yes the lights are off.....

WOW she sounds determined. I have had a few broody but not a lot of experience with it.
I hope someone can give advice but my only thought is give her a few eggs from the fridge.
Maybe with them being cold it might "shock" her out of it.
