I love all the colors you're getting!Well here is the most recent hatch. Wasn't a great hatch, but ended up being better than I expected. Most are silkies with 2 Birchen Marans and 2 Birchen Marans mixes with either white rocks or naked necks.
And my two silvers/greys from several hatches ago. I'm really loving these guys!
Looks really good! Hope they get you some answers soon!So I have most of my home made incubator together and I am having issues with the 225 Incukit. It is running way too hot and not shutting off. It runs about 104+°
Have a message in with the manufacturer to figure out what gives. Feeling a bit frustrated.

I'm making myself finish my work before I look at the thread, but here's a new video. At first, they're playing on some "sod." I took a large knife outside and cut a rectangle of "grass" out of the side yard for them to play with. Just as I was going to stop filming them around 30 seconds, they started flying/jumping over the stick/perch. That's an especially cute part.Share your video

CRSelvey ~ I think our messages crossed paths because I just noticed your Marek's confirmation! What an ordeal you have been through, but as ChickCrazed noted, the worst is behind. Not knowing can make anyone imagine all sorts of things, and in addition, your messages from Purdue kept getting delayed! Lucy's experience helped all of us!
Btw, did you happen to copy and paste the best info that you learned in researching Marek's? I know you read through practically the entire Internet! You're a dedicated chicken mom (omg-- spellcheck just changed "dedicated" to "decimated"!) You also provided a good contact at Purdue if anyone needs their services. If you still have the phone number to go with her name, that would be helpful, too, since there are many departments and numbers.
I had to repeatedly sanitize my coop after my BR, Tweedy, got scaly leg mites (also from wild birds). Since they're much less serious that Marek's, I bought a Shark handheld steam sanitizer at B,B&Beyond. It's a handy thing to have, but it sounds like you have to use a certain solution. We need that information recorded, cataloged, and copyrighted, too!!!
Despite Tweedy's leg mites, I hadn't moved the bird feeders to the front of the house because we have a better view where they are, which is too close to the coop. As a result of your experience, I'm also move the bird feeders, and I'm going to work on getting people to remove their shoes when they come in the front door. I've gone through phases of adopting that practice, but it never seems to last. I just read another report about all of the bacteria, pesticides, and other chemical pollutants that adhere to people's shoes. Not to mention chicken poop! It then creates dust in the house, which we breathe.

It's a good thing to look forward to new chicks. It's called Hope. Explain to your DH that it's an important component to your personal plan for healing. Emphasize that you had to go through the wretched experience all by yourself since he was away on business during the crisis. You might mention that Valentine's Day is coming up, too! lololol I'm such a great influence!

If anyone would like a map of your county, like the one on my avatar, I will be happy to provide one. If someone wants a combo map and a chicken or an animal for your avatar, I can put that together for you, just PM me. When I read posts, many times I think “Now where are they from?” I look at the city and still have no idea what part of the state they’re from. The map icon with the county in red because you could quickly glance and see where the member who is posting is from. These avatars are not required-- they are just a free service if you’re interested.

Cluck Acres (Curtis) set up a Google Map for just us INDIANA BYC’ers. You must first log on to your Google account or make a Google account. (If you have gmail, just use your gmail password). All you have to do is go to this link....http://goo.gl/maps/UShV6 . Here are the directions. You will see the state of Indiana.. Zoom in to where you live and then click on the red button that says Edit. After you click Edit you will see a hand, blue pin point and a zig zag line on the map. Click the pin point and drag it to where you live on the map. After you have placed your pin point then click on it and you can edit your description by adding your county. If you want to change your blue pin point to another icon or upload your own then up on the right of that box click the pin point icon and choose others or upload your own icon. If anyone has problems with this feel free to ask.

I am having the same problem right now, of course I cant afford the bird netting I have a lg run. it aint nothing to look out my kitchen window and see 100 of the dang things swarmed in my coop and the poor chickens run out by them... I of course go and run them off only for them to come back before I can even get out of the run. I saw someplace on here chicken self feeders, DH is trying to come up with something that will work with the amount of chickens I have.
We have got to do something, going through 3 50lb bags of scratch a week. that aint cutting it!!!
Morning all Cockadoooooooodledooooooooo!!!
I had a bit of heavier clear plastic that (in my desperation after chasing the birds out of my coop again) I cut into a few strips and stapled over the pop door. My bleak hope is that it will look like a solid surface to the wild birds and they won't go through it. I caught my chickens and stuffed them through the door to (hopefully) show them that they can go through it. What I am certain will happen is those fool chickens will be too afraid to go through it and those jerk wild birds will have no trouble figuring out how to get in, but won't be able to get out. Oh well, I feel better trying anyway. As soon as we get some decent weather I will finish putting chicken wire across the chain link roof and they hopefully won't be able to get in unless the run door is open for free ranging. Then plan B is a pop door into my run with a chunnel! This is war!
I found a dead bird in the Ameraucan pen yesterday. Can't figure out how it got in, surrounded by bird netting. I guess better there pen (I dont have silkies, and only 1 araucana) than any of the others.

I remember reading that placement of the heater, fan, and thermostat are very important. I think that they needed to be very close together to keep temps consistent. First mention I see is post 18. But you will want to read on to get a better feel for it.
