INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

Yes... I'm quoting myself. After googling pictures of partridge Cochin eggs, I'm second guessing who might have laid it. Is it light enough to be a silkie!? It looks like Cochins lay something much darker.
@bradselig and @kabhyper1 , I'm looking at you two Silkie experts. I really don't think my "girl" is even old enough, but it was found in the same spot she sleeps in... Which is under the roost, but not in the "line of fire".
That looks like a silkie egg to me.

That's what I was thinking too.

I can't kill a bird. I especially would not kill a Silkie! To me is use the other "definition" of cull. All my birds are "pets" and the silkies will be separated from the big girls so the big ones don't hurt the littles. My coop and run is ready n waiting! Lol they get t be spoiled for a couple days while in temp Quarantine. Temp meaning Temperature and temporary. I want t be sure they tolerate the cold here ok.

They won't be killed but possibly put into a no breeding situation. I don't believe in killing unless is an absolute MUST.

X's 2! I haven't eaten chicken in a year. lol I'm silly like that. Btw, have you candled the eggs for development yet? I really hope they didn't freeze in the mail. I haven't done my claim with the post office yet. Hope to do it this week.

No haven't yet will check them tonight. See what's happening...

Hi All,
I was just out cleaning my coop and two of my Cochins have poopy butts. Its not bad, just a little messy. I didn't see any poo on the boards that looked strange or watery, so I don't think its diarrhea. Could this be normal for them on occasion? Should I just trim the fluff off the back to help them out a bit? I have been giving all the chickens Rooster Booster in their food this week, so maybe that is contributing to their issue.
CRSelvey ~ I've noticed that occasionally with my hens who have fluffier derrières. I think that when they poop in the arctic air, it can freeze onto their fluff. Perhaps?

I did a little fluff trimming, and that has helped a lot. If you know someone with a beard trimmer, you could borrow it.

Yeah, our yard is really not that big(2 city lots), but come spring it's going to feel a bit smaller. Lol! I have plans to purchase an old cast iron bath to turn into a pond. I'm trying to keep from looking like Elly May Clampett by tying into my artsy creative side to come up with a mini pond solution. I will probably go the kiddie pool route until I figure out what I am doing. Who really knows what any of us are really truly up to...
lilmizcareall ~ Haha about the Beverly Hillbillies reference! My coop started out looking so nice when I first added clear plastic to winterize. Since then, I've thrown a couple of old wool blankets over the ends and leaned boards up along the front to keep the plastic in place. It reminds me of a shanty town or something you'd see on the old TV show, Sanford and Son! Luckily the privacy fence hides the coop.
Congrats on your first egg!! Your photo is so aesthetically pleasing.

Its taken me two days but I have finally caught up. Just wanted to drop in and say hey. Lovely pics everyone, sorry to everyone who has lost birds or who is dealing with issues. Don't remember who it was that was looking for hay up here in this area but we may have some alfalfa hay if you are still interested. I have to talk to my bf. He works 3rd shift so he is sleeping right now but I will talk to him tonight if still interested.
Hope everyone is having a great day. Back to lurking now.
barb s ~ We're glad to have you lurking on this thread, and your possible offer of hay is appreciated! Hay kabhyper! (she's the one who needs hay)

Really liked this.

Thanks guys. :) Sorry you have issue to Brad, it must be a bad year for it.

On a lighter note I got pics of the 5 littles tonight. They are still with momma in a rubbermaid tote away from the rest of the flock. They are a little over 2 weeks now. Although they hatched different colors they are all feathering white. Proves the gold and silver based genetics for white. :)

Also Gracie is for sure Grayson, and is getting very cute. He is getting lots of splashes, but they don't show up very well with my camera. He will be staying here for our breeding program. He is 4 months now.

This is the teeny one

Kab they are just too cute!

Here are a few pics I managed to take while freezing my butt off over the past few days lol.

This is one of the hens I got the other day. I was doing chores, finished and went inside, I then decided I would go back out and take a few pictures. And I found her like this. She is lucky I came back out. I don't know how she managed to do that, but I think it is fixed now. I didn't know it needed fixed before.

same girl

This is my sweetest silver duckwing old english game bantam. She love her picture taken, especially head shots.

same girl

black rosecomb bantam pullet, she likes to fly. She is out almost everyday.

Wow, your silver duckwing is identical to my Victoria!
She is precious, and always on my shoulder or hand.
Is she real chatty, Victoria is always tawwwk tawwk talking!
Duck bath!

Seriously, these two girls and their cute factor is through the roof. My husband has been as giddy as a school girl. I'm glad I've finally found something for him to get as excited, as I have been, with this crazy hobby of mine.

I have 4 silver duckwing OEGB hens, this one is my favorite out is them. She comes up to my hand and tries to sit in it. She quietly murmurs to me frequently, but isn't very loud. She is really sweet.

My Cochins all lay light eggs like that one a and they have tine white speckles. They are also more elongated than my wyandottes eggs.

I do happen to know someone with a trimmer but I don't think using said trimmer on poopy chicken butts would help my mission to get chicks this year ;). I'll probably stick with scissors this time.

So it was a busy afternoon. I was talking to my DH today and he said what's that on Kiki (the cat). Um, I don't know...I looked at my cat and she had this horrible rash like wound on her leg. I got her a vet appt ASAP and then remembered that I used the cat carrier to house one of the MD chickens and I haven't cleaned it out yet (I'm a slacker, what can I say). So to the vet she went in a box. It wasn't very stylish. She got a shot and some antibiotics. Then the vet says she hopes that clears it up so we don't have to look at bad things for possible causes. I'm an idiot because I just had to ask what bad was. That would be cancer. My vote is an infection. This cat is awesome and hasn't had one sick day in her 11 years. It can't be cancer. Period

On a high note, I became an auntie to twin girls this morning :D. Now I have 4 nieces under the age of four. I am already anticipating how hard that will be having 4 girls going to high school at the same time. Do you think counseling sessions make good Christmas presents?

That looks like a silkie egg to me.

I have/had both breeds and their eggs are soon close in color and size they've fooled me. I only had it confirmed by catching the little silkie pullet laying. Gotta be a "peeper" to be sure! Let us know when you got it figured out...I know I was thrilled she was finally laying. Pics help too..if it's at that age then a posted pic and I'm sure we could help tell what it's gender is. Seems the ones I've had I could tell the boys from the girls by then.
