INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

Thanks! Any luck on the other marans eggs?

AND.....Im happy to announce I have successfully went into Orschelns as well and still maintained enough will power to not buy any chicks! This time was a little easier as all they had left were Cornish crosses, but you still have to give me some credit! I will probably be giving Rural King a call though to see if they have any new chicks yet and breeds.

It really feels like spring is on it's way as i got 6 eggs today from my 8 girls the most I've gotten from them in one day

I got three out of five today - two blue! It has been a loooooooonnnnnnggggg time coming but I think things are looking up!

On a sour note, I got the plague part 2 and am really sick for the second time in a month!!!!! People need to learn to keep their germs at home so they don't infect innocent bystanders! Boo to being sick!!!

Well not so good for the remaining 6 eggs. they did not make it. I did check them and I am pretty sure I was the cause somehow. when opened all were fully developed chicks that looked like they would have hatched at anytime?? I think it may have been from me removing the two hatched chicks. I am not sure because I did keep the humidity high and even misted the eggs. I will know better for the next batch. And I did not fair as well as you walking into the TSC store last night. There maybe a couple JG's in the brooder!

I have heard that shrink wrapping can happen in an instant. I don't know for sure.
As for the chick from a feed store not making it, most likely it was nothing you did. Chicks can be exposed to all kinds of stuff at the store and all kinds of people with different pets. Some chicks are easily overwhelmed with so much exposure. Not to mention going at least 48 hours without water has to be tough too. I know many chicks can do it but the odds are that some just can't.

A New York Times article about changes in the California egg industry: http://www.nytimes.com/2014/03/04/b...o-wish-they-all-could-be-california-hens.html

I had my chicken coop inspection yesterday, the whole thing was...odd. The animal control officer asked me at least four times - in different ways - if our property was only one lot and not multiple lots. I have no idea why it mattered so much to him. Even if our yard were made up of multiple lots, it has no bearing on the city ordinance requirements. There's a meeting a week from Friday where the decision will be made on approving our permit.

I haven't posted pics of my oldest chicks for awhile so here is a couple.
First up is one of the Black Australorp's

Thanks, I have 7 BPR and 7 RIR's in the bator and today is day 10. I just got done candling them, all but two (one of each breed) showing growth and even watched them all moving!!! Super excited about this batch. Two were definitely glow in the dark duds. Good luck with yours
