INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

I think these hobbit hole chicken coops are pretty cool! They're on the My Pet Chicken website. It would be fun to have a whole Hobbiton village for the girls!

Those are super cute! The practical side of me thinks cleaning them would be hard since they are big and you can't stand up in them, but if we all win the lottery we can hire lots of minions so it won't matter! lol

No mink in the trap. I had to use sardines to bait it because the grocery I went to was out of chicken livers. I may stop while I'm out and add a second form of bait. I barely slept last night since I was worrying about what the varmint was up to!

I dint listen to WOWO, my dad sends me the weather text alerts occasionally. K105 is all I listen to. I don't what I listen to if I didn't have k105, probably just but a bunch of CDs lol. Streaming maybe worth a try.
Yes. I have a bluffton address, but I live 3 or 4 miles from liberty center. It take me 45 mins to get to FW.
streaming K105 right now on http://tunein.com/

Got home from my trip last night. All is well. Chickens and chicks are fine.

Went through the chicks that hatched. Some mixes, some Bresse, a Basque Hen, a BBS Barnevelder, another boy Legbar and two pullet legbars! That gives me three pullets and six Roos out of ten eggs set.

Then when I went to collect eggs....21!!!!! I actually called our niece to see if she collected eggs the day before, and she did. That is 7 more eggs than my previous best day. Both legbars, both Welsummers, and all 8 Bresse laid eggs, plus a lot of others whose eggs I can't be sure of. I guess everyone has decided to get with the program.

I have seen these many times. I LOVE them. Its so Lord of the Rings. It makes me want to put a fairy garden right out side.
So I was out this morning cleaning the coop area and then let the chickens out of the run into our fenced garden when I heard a screech overhead. I am watching the sky when a huge hawk flew overhead and landed in our tree. So, I immediately start chasing our chickens back into the run when I hear another one that is the same cry and a mouse sound. It turns out that they are using my tree as a dating site and its just not cool. She left, but he's hanging around and I've seen two more since. It might be the same girl, but not sure how to tell. Either way, I'm not judging, but I wish they'd do their business in someone else's yard. ;-)

Its at the top of the pic!

They're saying up to 8" late tonight and tomorrow morning; winds 40 mph.

First test on my lone hen has come back neg...

so now I will get her a buddy and right before the chicks go out I will have them tested again. And I already have a plan for them to go out if the test should come back pos. DH is going to build me temperory pens in the dog yard. None of the chickens were ever in that yard, and all but 2 of my dogs are chicken safe. So will just have to keep an eye on the 2 youngest dogs, till I can move them out to the chicken yard. We got this!!!!!

I forgot to tell you guys that I saw this chicken tractor at Costco the other day. It was $199 and so cute. I think it was big enough for three hens, but it would be great for little guys while they are growing up. Its probably not sturdy enough to handle predators in our area, but not bad in a protected place.
I seen something like this one at RK here in TH for 199.99 and was thinking it would be ok ( with a bigger run and made permanent ) for my Silkies. I only have 2 and the small house would be so hard for them to keep warm in with body heat in the winter. Would like to hear other OP's on that ????????????

The one that I saw was made with hardware cloth so that was nice. I think it would be easier to warm up in the smaller space but it would help to add a layer of the blue foam insulation to the inside of the coop (assuming the chickens didn't try to eat it). Maybe just under the coop and coop roof.
