INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

Whats helped me is to have a fresh tub of hot water with a sponge ready, get the dry chicks out and put that bowl in.
Then I cover the bator with a towel a few minutes to help bring humidity back up quick.
So far, I am finally not having any more shrink wrapped babies

the geese will be the real test, I have about 10 eggs in the bator already.
Last year I did not have a single unassisted hatch with the geese. What a pain!

#1 playing with the dogs after eating 4 oz of milk. ( first time I got more then 1 oz down him at 1 time )

#2 this morning after I took his socks and ear muffs off... lol should have got pic's with them on but didn't think about it. Yes I left his coat on.

thanks for the coat ideal with the old sweatshirt sleeve... works great.

BTW I have 2 roo's they both are crowing now...

Now I have to find them some hens.
So glad to hear he is ok! Check with bradselig, he sometimes will have chicks that aren't the color he is working towards etc.and they are gorgeous birds.
kabhyper1 also breeds them and has some beautiful babies as well!

Yesterday we gathered 7 eggs! I was SO happy that everyone got extra treats! Apparently, my girls LOVED the extras and didn't want them to stop coming because they layed 11 EGGS today!! and one is blue! I believe it came from my tailless EE! I'm gathering all of the scraps and extra veggies I can find for them as I type!

I think spring is finally here! My BR turkey (oldest hen only) and the geese are all laying like mad! pretty happy about that

So the little ones didn't love the ecoglow, and the ducks and EE's hated the heat lamp, so we switched back. I wanted something for the tiny babies to cuddle with. So without ruining anything special with baby poop, I used a few of my DH's old socks and make a baby cuddler/ first roost. They love it! I figured I would pass it on. Also if this hasn't been invented yet, I'm taking credit! HA!

Oh yeah and the ducks have names now. Scrappy and Skittles. Scrappy is huge and hilariously clumsy and Skittles is very mild and quiet and little.

Yay!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I can almost hear the peeps from 2 miles away lol! Oh wait no those are mine that don't want to sleep 15 feet away from me.
haha. I have a single story house that is 1400 sq ft. My bedroom is on one end and the cat/chick room is on the other end. I constantly hear peeping!

lol, if we are even two miles apart. you got some cute chicks cuddled up to that sock, nice idea! I am hoping to have a few more in the morning. The big chicks are moving out to the barn tomorrow also. And my kid goats are keeping us super busy.

Ours is smaller than yours, and I have waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too many chickens in here!

Yeah you may be right, we may be closer than that lol. I plan on moving my large flock into their coop from the barn, the silkies in my house to the barn, so that will leave me with just the little guys in here. I wanted to burn my house down today I was so overwhelmed with animals and I feel like I am always cleaning in here. I love them dearly, but it's getting ridiculous. NEED SPRINGTIME NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Btw your goats are really cute. You and your wife and kiddos will have to come see the alpacas sometime. We will have babies in june.

Travis (DH) was with me when I went into TSC today. I have 18 silkies, 4 Silver laced wyandottes, 2 RIR, 2 LF blue cochins, 1 minorca, 1 australorp, 10 EE's including the mixes , 1 minorca slw mix, and 2 khaki campell ducklings. So 41 before I went to get chick grit today. I wish I would have taken a picture of his face when I insisted I needed a polish chick in the mixed bantams. He knows there is a six chick minimum. All he did was sigh, and when we got home said "so that's close to 50 now right?" LOL I actually felt really badly. He likes them, although I think he is going to sign me up for Animal hoarders or My Strange Addiction or Intervention or any other show on A&E. I am fully prepared for a camera crew to show up on my doorstep.

Thanks will do, The goats are so cute my wife dont want to sell them

We are keeping all does but the bucks will be sold as weathers or breeding bucks. until my wife has to bottle feed them and then its all over and they wont be going anywhere.. And my house is about the same size as brads yes spring time cant come soon enough!!!! Tomorrow we are going to be disbudding them

dont know if you know what this evolves but its not fun and its heartbreaking, but its safer and is breed standard so it has to be done.

I don't want to know, but I'm sure you wouldn't do it if it wasn't necessary. Poor kiddos. They won't remember though. Give them lots of hugs after!
