So glad you got them back!
LOL the predators are out thick. I am running 2 live traps and catch possum, coons or skunk every night.
We are next to a big pond (park) lots of confields and a big creek, so I even have to watch out for snapping turtles.
I raise ducks too, and snappers love duckling and goslings.

Only got 1 back, my brood *****. Still missing 4 dogs. ::sigh::

My coop is about 30-40yds away from the neighbors pond and 20' away from a little creek on our property. I just came in from hoping to catch something. I set a live trap out behind the coop, and put 1 rooster on each side in a dog crate to try to use as bait. Nothing. I put the roosters back in the coop and hoping the live trap has something other than the cats on our property.

Thanks everyone. Its been a rough night and day..
Shadow, my alpine doe, finally got her milk in, but refused the babies.
Back to the house they went. She actually shoved the stronger kid away with her hoof.
I got colostrum for them early this morning. My weak buckling didn't make it.
We lost him about 9pm, I went to feed the babies and he had passed.

DH reminded me we just got these poor goats. We don't know what they were fed.
How they were cared for etc. I keep mine on Noble goat, excellent feed.
Their coats shine, and when Sophie was born last July, she was on her feet in minutes.
Shadow has favored her leg since we got her, and I feel the labor and delivery was even harder for her.
She is confined to the livestock trailer for now, and I am taking the baby out to see her during the day.
I am very concerned mastitis will set in! Her udders are full, and I cant get any milk out of her, even with the milk pump.

Hope things turn around for you today. So sorry about the little buckling

I have gotten 5 RIR's and 3BPR! My last BPR hasn't hatched. I moved the chicks into the brooder and they went to town on the water and scattered feed on the paper. I have one RIR the very last chick to hatch yesterday, it is favoring one leg and seems to be unbalanced it will be on it's back a lot? Idk whst the issue is but has anyone seen this in a new chick? Doesn't walk as well as the others? Any ideas why?

Opps I had a typo. It is calf manna, not cal manna. Don't even know if there is such a thing as cal manna, but don't want to send you looking for the wrong thing or even worse something that doesn't exist. Talk about a wild goose chase.

Sorry about your weaker buckling. Your DH does have a valid point. Her previous owners care, could of affected her greatly. I hope you can get some milk out of her. Are you giving her antibiotics yet?

Excited to hear all your flock plans, BCM are just the sweetest birds, you will love them.

I have 28 pullet chicks I keep subdividing into more brooding boxes.Once I get electric run to my office trailer, we will have a "broody room" with linoleum floor installed. No more concerns for crowding, just keeping certain species apart. Waterfowl won't go in there, too MESSY!

If you need more holler, I am BURIED right now! You should see the black speckles on the hens chests around 2-3 weeks.
Roos get a reddish chest, no speckles. Usually my hen rate runs much higher than the roos, but I have hen luck too

Eggs in 6-8 weeks. The higher protein you give them, more eggs and bigger birds you get.
I have 2 trays set, about 70 eggs and won't be setting any more til these are grown/processed etc.
When Sally is ready I have more eggs for her too. I love my lil RIR roo, named him Roscoe.
He is just a doll

Penelope is quite the man of the house, the girls stick to him like glue. Adorable seeing them together.
My silver laced is especially drawn to him, gold laced follows too but will wander away.
I may keep looking for a Tolbunt roo for her.

LOL, there is pellets and powder, so be sure and read close...
I was going to get the 20lb powder tonite for the goats, and realized it was pellet.
I am sure its fine too, but I add it to the chickens feed also about 1x or so a week.

Yes, read closely! I usually get the tiny packets and the pellets don't come that small. Good thing too, because I would probably get home and realize I had the wrong thing. For me the pwder works better, because a lot of chicks I have used it for are lethargic and won't eat by themselves.

I have had chicks that couldn't walk at all. They had a vitamin deficiancy (sp?)-that is the only thing that comes to mind that your chick might have. Get some poly-vis-ol baby vitamins WITHOUT iron. And try giving it 2 or 3 drops a day.

We left a can of tuna in the trap overnight. We sat the roosters out on either side (trap is behind the coop), kept our distance, and sipped on some brewskies. I haven't checked it yet today m
