Some breeders fonts put anything on there's anymore because they believe the workers try to purposely damage them then. I personally like the ones that look like a sharpie threw up on them lol

I guess it's a risk either way, but I feel like there are more people who would be careful if they knew than people who would purposely damage the package. So I sharpie the crap out of my boxes. lol

When my mother and I used to collect Barbies we knew what stores to go to and which not to bother with because their stockers would intentionally damage the Barbie boxes while unpacking them. *cough*Toys-R-Us*cough*

I got the materials list together for my pallet coop! It will end up being a 8'x12' coop with 80' side walls. the roof is going to be a cross between a saltbox style. I hope to start building this week yet! I warn all of you this will be updated with pic HEAVY post

! The siding will be 1x's taken apart from the pallets as a lap siding style. I will probably do a heavy weather proofing stain and not paint (I want a rustic looking coop). There will be a entrance from the coop into the goats pasture that can be shut off, And a large run (not sure how big yet) off of the coop itself. This will be a fun project and I will try my best to give the "pallet coop" respect when its all done!

I'm looking forward to seeing your new coop. We are getting ready to construct a chicken run this weekend, right next to our chicken shed. We're going to cut a door in the side of the shed so they can go in and out from the enclosure. We're going to give the shed a fresh coat of paint before we mount some cages on the outside wall - mainly for my quail, but I might keep some breeding pairs in them, as well. Vertical nest boxes will go up on one of the inside walls. This bird thing is a terrible addiction! I "settled" on raising three breeds: serama, silkies and jaerhon ... but then I start scrolling through this thread and I find myself wondering if I can come up with a little more space for another breed or two... I mean, how much trouble would it be to add some frizzles to the mix, right?! *sigh* :)

I was just looking over threads about AI on chickens and now I have the urge to test it out just because I can. Yeah, I've got that kinda mind set about new things. Lol. I think if I ever start 'breeding' birds my dad may have to put up with it because it seems to be the easiest way to insure you know who is paired with who right?

Anyway. Hi to all the newbies!

And I'm sorry to those who lost chicks and eggs.

I'm worried a bit about the 30 some eggs I've got in the 'bator since there was a slight flux in room temp that completely {maybe an exaggeration} threw off the temperature of the incubator but now its fine so hopefully it only slightly upsetted the eggs and no real bad damage was done. I think the lowest it got to was around 80 and then it got to about 102. So does anyone know if that will cause losses? It didn't stay at around 80 for more than a half hour or less so I figure that that would be like a broody leaving the nest for just a bit right? And It was Only above 100 for a few minutes. I hope nothing goes wrong, I'm crossing my fingers.

I've had similar fluctuations in incubator temps. I didn't have a high hatch rate when that occurred, but I didn't lose everything, either. 40-50% hatch rate was my experience when that type of thing occurred. It also depends how far along you were when you had the temperature fluctuations. If it's just within a day or two of hatch, I've found that it really doesn't effect things that much. Wishing you a great hatch! :)
