INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

Angry rabbit!! Lol

A phoenix - that's what I thought, too, atrueb00 - his coloring is very flame-like - really incredible shades of yellow, orange and red against charcoal gray. I'm seriously thinking about hatching more out of the pair he came from. The sire is a blue splash silkie - "Dandy Randy" - he is the greatest little bird man! And the mama is a very brightly colored mille fleur d'uccle. I'm wondering what the pullets might look like out of them.

Dandy Randy sired that chicken? Wow! I would have thought the sire would be a black silkie. That is so interesting.
atrueb00 ~ We bought some T-posts from RK for a couple of dollars each and a roll of chicken wire-- it comes in several heights. We've used them to make pens around areas with new grass-- or gardens --to keep the chickens OUT! We're currently using them for a large chicken pen for my five 3 month old chicks. They're sharing the coop with my six hens, but are in a blocked off section. In the morning, the hens are let out first and are given some seeds to distract them. Then I move a section of the fence over to the coop door so that when the chicks come out, they're guided to their free range pen area. Then I put the fence back together to contain them. The chicken tractor is in the middle of the pen, so they have shelter. My point is that with some (we have ten) inexpensive T-posts and a roll of chicken wire, it's easy to move, reconfigure, and use for various projects.
This is such a great idea! Much more versatile and can be configured into different shapes or projects later on. Thank you!

Dandy Randy is so handsome!

I've been looking for a old wooden door for my pallet palace coop. We've been to antique stores and a few yard sales, we've seen a couple but I just never bought one for one reason or another. So the other day we were at my moms visiting. I asked her if they had a door sitting around (they don't throw anything away). My stepdad (dad) said he thought there was one in the old shed! Sure enough there was and it was a perfect fit (almost had to trim a little length and width) and the color is great. I got it installed this morning and I think it turned out great!!! I'm not even going to clean off the dust and cobwebs it's a nice touch of character!

Here is a look from the inside

New hinges but the doorknob is original and works!
My house was built in the 1930 and it still has all original molding, doors, etc. Our doors look exactly like this one, even with the dark stain. Love it!!

Hey, guys, I forgot to post this here yesterday, but my babies turned 11 months old!

Huka the quiet Silver Lakenvelder:

Whiri the shy Light Brown Leghorn:

Po the manly Black Cochin bantam:

And a shout out to little Margie the silkie, who'll be a year old at the middle / end of the month:

Your birds look amazing, looks like they had a bath before the photos! Is Margie a porcelain silkie? She is very cute!

So I think my 6 month old silkie girls are laying, and someone hasn't figured it quite out yet. Found this in the coop last night, and when I blew it out, because of course I have to keep it, it had a yolk! Albeit a very teeny one.

These are.. super teeny silkie egg, silkie pullet egg, normal silkie egg, Rhode Island Red egg, Khaki Campbell duck egg.

This is so neat to see! People ask me a lot what size eggs the silkies lay, I will have to show them this photo from now on! Thank you for sharing!
The bantams are a month old now. I either hit the jackpot with pullets, or they are developing really slowly.
Self explanatory lol
I just love your Polish Top Hat. One day when I have more room for chickens, I must have some of these guys!

Thanks for the advice Ellymay. I'll be sure to do that. I'll have to keep my roo away and corner her carefully in the coop. Had a heck of a time catching her the first time when they were 'ranging. Seesh. I'm surprised I didn't get attacked by the rooster. From what I have seen watching them when I first spotted it. No one pecked her. I think her butt fluff hides it well and she stays away from the roo, atleast that I've seen so I'll have to check on her and see what needs done. :)

My Dad and I went to the Veedersburg auction Friday and it was...enjoyable. they had lots of birds, mostly sexlinked hybrids- cinnamon queens, they had lots of silkies. More than I expected. They had oh, two boxes of white silkies, one box had three another had at least 7 there was one partridge silkie two and another cage had three- one white and a black. There were a couple other white too. {Apparently white is a big color in Silkies? :D } But, they didn't look good enough to get to show or breed I didn't think, plus you didn't know if they were pure or not. I saw a single comb on a black silkie along with several hard feathers too so I passed. :)

It was a fun experience though. Lots of cigarette smoke though but I used my Dad as a smoke block and breathed in his shirt when the wind changed direction. :) What else are Dads for? Besides half way supporting/sponsoring a chicken addiction? :D

Went to visit my cousins this weekend and ended up taking home some eggs for the broody silkies to hatch out. Here are the parents of the millefeurs eggs I got.

Also got some pearl guinea eggs. Can't wait to have lil chicks in a few weeks! I've never incubated or let the silkies incubate and very excited to see what happens.
