INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

I wanted to thank every one for the compliments on the new puppies. Their nickname, The Sinister Sisters is definitely fitting. If one doesn't think of it, the other one does. I also wanted to congratulated every one on the new chicks, hatches, baby goats, and any other new babies I have missed. Also, very sorry for all the loses.
I do have some news on the chicken front. I have had an incubator for the last year, never been out of the box, that I got out on Sunday and put 45 eggs in. I found 39 eggs hidden in different places in the coop on Sunday, plus added 6 from the next boxes. So instead of throwing the eggs out I decided that I would try to hatch some of them. I have no idea what I am doing, if they are even fertile, or what they will turn out to be. I don't think that any of them are over a week old ( none smelled). The eggs are mostly from 2 OEGB, Silverbright, and 2 LF OEG mixes crossed with either a MilleFluer D'uccle, Rhodebar, or 2 mutt roosters.
Also, in chicken news I have chicks coming around May 6 and May 12. So in about 3 weeks I hope to have lots of new baby chicks. Still waiting to hear on 2 orders yet, but those should also be coming soon.
Sorry for such a long post.

I think this is my only Legbar chick that's hatched so far. If so it's a girl right?!?

If that is a legbar, it is most definitely a girl - big identifiers are no white head spot, and well defined eye and back stripes.

Sooo, I just treated my silkies with ivermectin pour on as recommended for lice and mites. Since I did it myself and they are flippin' fluffy, I hope I dosed them correctly. At any rate, I cleaned out the bedding, sprayed poultry protector, felt pretty proud of myself, came inside, got on BYC, only to read Ivermectin does nothing for lice. Great. I saw brown crawlies on one of my chicks for sure, so what I thought were mites, must be the lice came back. Now what do I do? I don't want to dust them since they just got dosed. I prefer not to dust anyway because of respiratory issues, but if I must I will. Any advice? I HATE PARASITES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I was pretty sure ivermectin took care of mitesand lice . I thought mites were black and lice were white but could be wrong. I just picked up eperinex to treat all mine.

Aaaaahhhh. What's wrong with Burning Bush? I just ordered 10 of them and was going to put them around my house! So pretty!! Please don't give me bad news!!!
Winged Euonymus (Burning Bush) Euonymus alatus
Why is it a problem? In open woodlands, winged Euonymus replaces native shrubs. In areas where it forms dense monotypic stands, it reduces habitat diversity. The root system forms a dense mat just below the soil surface. The combination of the dense shade provided and the tight root system makes survival of other plants beneath Euonymus impossible. Since the seeds of Euonymus alatus are bird dispersed, it spreads extensively from plantings. Burning bushes are pretty, but just for a few weeks out of a year. They also spread into yards and are difficult to contain to one area.

This photo below shows what it can do to a woodland area.

Below: This type of Euonymus is my tormenter: Winter Creeper
People like it because it's green (more or less) all winter, but it takes over lawns, fences-- everything.
Beware--They send "runners" to spread.

Below: Here's a photo of Winter Creeper out of control-- covering everything.

Below: These two other common types of Euonymus sold at
garden centers, etc.
