INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

What size is your purple coop?  :D

The "short" answer on the iron is that for those tiny little bodies, it's very easy to cause toxicity by feeding supplemental iron.

And...
I really wouldn't paint my house like that.  It's just when someone says I CAN'T do something my mind would be trying to find a way to "make a point".   ;)

It's 4x8

There is a Purple house over here in Hebron. It's quite noticeable ;)

Does anyone know why TSC only has Brown layers? The only White layers I can find locally are Leghorns. I've never had them because they are skiddish. I have Buff O's and RIR's.

The ones around here have tetra tints...those are fairly close to white.

My post was unclear. I meant I wanted a chicken coop all done up like the flag or maybe a candy cane house for the next extreme winter.

I know what you meant! I was just trying to clarify my "determination" in such situations.

Thank you. I'm not great at writing. My lack of writing skills leads me to think there is an issue with my posts at times.

I wonder if Andrew could custom paint his coops as flags, candy cane houses, or other unique designs. If not I'm almost positive there would be a niche in the market for such a thing.

I'm not so sure you have as many boys as you think. One of the BJGs looks like a possible boy, and none of the SLWs that I see look like boys. I don't even see anything on the Brahmas that screams boys. If you had boys from any of them, I'd expect to see more wattle development by 8-10 weeks like you do on the wellies. Even with a pea or rose comb, the wattles get much bigger, much earlier on the boys.
That makes me very happy. Didn't want all those Roo's ( duh ) going to be allot easier to get rid of just 2. Thanks so much for letting me know.

This is my favorite. Splash partridge?

I love them, can I have them ALL ? lol

I love the color, good job.

Thanks. It is an optical illusion in your photos. From one angle it looks really large and from the other angle it looks small. I couldn't figure out what I was looking at.

So I gave my silkies wood ash in their run, and now their poops are black. Funny yes. Concerning, a little. Should I be worried about the little trails of coal in the coop right now? I'll bet they don't have worms now if they did LOL!

Well, it's official. I haz chickens!

I brought home two Black Orps, a very pretty Barnyard Mutt, two Golden Comets and two Easter Eggers. One of the EEs may or may not be a boy.

I think there's a good chance one or both of the BOs has vent gleet.

I didn't know or think to ask the seller about the poop stuck all over the chicken's butt feathers. (One was crusty, the other was not, so I think maybe only one is infected.) I did notice that they smelled positively awful, and there was a large quantity of nasty runny poop in the container they came home in. Granted the other chickens had pooped in their carrier too, but the others' poop didn't smell like hot death.

I'll give the bird a clean-up and inspection in the morning. It was getting dark when I got everyone home, and by the time I had them settled in the coop they were all falling asleep. If confirm illness, it wouldn't be unreasonable to take her straight back for a refund, right? I'm not messing around with trying to cure this thing; I'm too new to the game and I don't have an isolation place. I guess that's next on my build list. I read that VG isn't strictly contagious, but it can be caused by a variety of yeasts, fungi, and other nasty bugs I don't want passed around my new flock.

Honestly, I'm a little mad at the seller for sending me home with this bird, and not so much as saying, "Hey, this could be a problem; let's take a look."
I'm even more mad at myself for being in a hurry and not asking a question that I kind of thought I should ask.
