INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

these are pictures of two of the Silkies that I have hatched from Kab and Brads eggs. The darker larger baby is 10-11 wks old I think its one of the Partridge babies that I hatched out a few weeks after my trip to Indy. She has adopted Little Gray who is
approximately 7 wks old now, is all pullet too, Im almost positive of that (was vent sexed at a day old). I also still have the other Partridge baby which I think is a pullet and Little Ellie the Blue/Gray chick that hatched with the Partridges. The two pictured here I traded for a beautiful Dark Gray 1yr old Roo (Rudy). He's beautiful!!!! Not sure hes pure blood though. Do Silkie Roos ever have long streamer feathers coming up out from their tails???
I think Little Gray should have bn named "Spike" LOL look at that Mohawk!!!! roflmbo!

Idea 1.  Feed wet food when rain is predicted by putting a bit of dry food in a dog food style bowl or trough.  Let the rain get it wet and the chickens will peck it clean.  The dry chicken feeders get clogged when the food gets wet leaving the chickens without a good way to get to the wet food.

Idea 2.  I think Meyer hatchery sells lids for the feeders but they are not cheap.

Idea 3.   Put a hole in a frisbee and slide it over the chain to work as a lid, making sure the rim is pointed down to minimize the amount of water that leaks into the feeder.

You genius you.

Here is a quote from an article that raised some points to ponder.

I used it when my son breastfeeding caused thrush. He got it all over his mouth. It was all over on me also used it on his bum for a particularly stubborn diaper rash. I'm not concerned. It's not something I've had occasion to use yet and it is a first aid ingredient I use. Not studied doesn't mean harmful. Look at all those natural remedies. Almost none of them have been studied. Many are against GMO's, but the studies actually so far indicate there's no need for all the brouhaha. So studied or not I guess I'm just saying we all need to make out own individual decision. Thanks for the info. I'm not particularly concerned myself.

Oh and studies done on mice are often huge huge doses that don't translate to the real world very well. And the fact that mice and people are different. But again, thanks :)

Whoops... one PS on the Blu Kote.

Gentian Violet is anti-fungal.  It is used for fungal infections.  Used to be used for oral thrush in babies (a candida yeast infection in the mouth).

If all you need is something to put on an ouchie and to color it to keep it from getting picked, an anti-fungal really isn't appropriate.  You could go get a blue food coloring that's made from natural items - or make your own - and use it to camouflage a wound if that's what's needed.

It also has anti bacterial properties. Actually it shows some promise in treating MRSA

They are adorable! Just love those little fluffy butts! I just moved my babies about 6 wks old now out to the coop brooder. My garage is finally empty of birds! Lol Of course the heavy storms and drop in temps are making me feel bad! But DH was frustrated with me that I have had our garage occupied all winter! I understand though. .I wanted it empty so I can clean it up and be done with all that! Now to build a suitable brooder for the next batch to move out of my office in Ugh...several weeks ...as I will yet again have more due to hatch

and our thread! We have several members in your area, please PM if you need more help.
There should be a co-op there that will mix to what you want, do you have hens?

A bit OT, but I'm having a mommy-panic-attack moment - this evening my dear, sweet, "baby" girl informed me that there are only 38 days until her graduation.............when did this happen, who gave her permission to grow up?
Anyone been through this with your own kids? Just hoping someone can tell me that you do live through it..........
YES and I cried! She was my last one to grow up.

it really grabs you. Shakes you and wakes you up.
I have the empty bedroom now, and see her about once a week if I am lucky..
Know that you raised your kid to be strong, independent and ready to deal with the real world.
I leave that bedroom open if its too much for them the first time.
