INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

I have two Jaerhon cockerels that I'm willing to part with for free if someone here is interested. If I don't get any takers, they will go in the pot. I've also posted on the Madison County 4-H Facebook page to let folks know in case there are any kids looking for chickens to show. Rare breed. I got my chicks from Ideal (one of only two hatcheries that carry the breed) in February and they are thriving. Ordered six males to hedge my bets - in case I lost any in shipment or due to poor health as they matured.

One of them hasn't developed properly and is a little less than half the size of the rest of the flock. I thought he wasn't going to make it, but he now seems to be very healthy except for the fact that he is a midget. I was going to butcher him for some chicken nuggets, but changed my mind. I figured that the fact he has survived at such a small size deserves some respect. So, he's staying! I have named him "Nickel" because he really isn't worth a plug nickel. ;) Cute little guy!

That leaves five roos for ten pullets - more than I need, for sure. So, two of them are up for adoption. Give me a shout if you want one or both.

I will be acquiring Some Blue Wheaten Marans tomorrow, More than I need for myself. If anyone in the NE area would like a few please let me know. I am in the whitley co area. They are beautiful birds I believe they are around six months old and are laying. If you are interested in a couple PM me!

We sold our two Nubian kids tonight. They are going to a wonderful farm of a retired veterinarian so they will be in great hands. It was nice to see the scattered showers today my freshly seeded alfalfa field really needed it to get started. What a beautiful evening it turned out to be. Our garden is tilled and ready for planting over this weekend. Hope everyone is having as good of evening as my family and I are

We may want a couple. Sorry I ddn't text you back, we just got home from shearing a little while ago. We are beat! I would love some chocolate eggs ;-)

So I did something very dumb last night. I tried to help a chick. I made the membrane bleed, and freaked out. Thanks to some silkie friends on the silkie thread at 2 am, I got some answers, and was up every 3 hours last night moistening the menbrane and peeling back shell. This morning when we left for alpaca shearing, I had a very wet, very weak chick under Suki. I was worried about what I would find when we got home. I'm happy to report lucky number seven, or Seven as we call her, is doing great. I'm glad my lack of sleep paid off. I wont be doing that ever again!

Miss Seven

The whole crew..... Seven i the one on the red plastic. We got 5 partridge a white and a blue. We lost a splash.

Went and picked up my chicks from Brads tonight. All are home, happy and settled in. Will try to get pics tomorrow. Brad has some really beautiful birds. Thanks again Brad.
Nothing happening in the incubator yet but it is only day 19. Thanks for the hatching vibes.

Hi all! This is a short but silly video of my Bantam assortment from Ideal Hatchery. I'm very happy with them.. I got 30 chicks from them and only one or two passed away. There's also a few in there from TSC that someone got for a birthday present and couldn't keep them. Not to mention Pepper, the Brahma hen trying to balance in the orange cord! ha ha

The high wire act was too funny

the bird to the right was looking over like..what are you doing?!? Adorable variety, love your flock!
I went to RK tonight. They now have non-gmo layer feed. Lots of ducks too. Some are over a week old, still straight run though.
I did see it at New Castle too. I figured it did have soy but it would be an improvement on what I feed now. Considering trying it out.

they are so precious, never seen that type of marking before on a silkie! Shrink wrapped babies are terribly upsetting. Traumatic for them and you both! Even with my sportsman I still have some, our house is just too drafty and terribly dry. I just had a little goose #4 hatch from the bator this morning, sure enough, shrink wrapped. Its a very slow process when they are. Most important part is the inner membrane no longer has active veins. I candle the baby a lot as I work the shell away, and open the air cell first. Use warm water and cotton swabs. I do not keep them out of the incubator more than 10 minutes at a time so they don't chill.
Hope #7 recovers quickly, looks as tho its thriving!

$19.99 on sale for $17.99 yes there was soy in it. Here is a link to the info about the feed. It is the layer with 16% protein.
http://www.hilandnaturals.com/feed-chicken.html

It looked very much like the feed I get from the grain mill when I buy food for my layers. Chick starter I still get from RK.
I've been using it for a couple of weeks now. The girls love it!
OK, now I really want to try it! I bet it ferments very well too if its a grain type feed. It will work for the egg coop, will have to doctor it for the rest lol!

If they are a bantam breed I am for sure interested! I will pm you!

Quote: Well, It was an easy decision. She had 3 little fluffy butts when I got home. She still has an egg that hasn't hatched, and I've got two now with pips in the incubator. I waited till night, went down and slipped the hatchling under her. A couple clucks and murmurs, then she settled back down and went catatonic again.

hehehe I would have gave her all that was left! Sounds like a great hatch, what a good momma
