I am so shocked... There is nothing left of my little bantam Cochin boy, Po, except a few of his lovely black feathers. I'm so upset.

He was separate from the flock because he was getting to be a little too much for the girls. It was just a temporary thing, just until he cooled it, because other than wearing down the feathers on a couple of the girls, he was so good to them. His pen wasn't particularly secure, but he had a secure hutch-like thing in it. I forgot to close him in it last night. I'm just kicking myself this morning. My handsome little guy, Po... And he was shaping up to be such a good flock rooster...

I'm sorry to hear they didn't hatch. I've got about 25 juveniles if you want some.

Before I got the Bresse, the best meat birds I'd processed were a Dominique and a Wyandotte (Roos).

I also just processed 6 Cornish x yesterday. Definite Frankenchickens. Once I get them packaged, I'll post comparison pictures.

I've settled on the Bresse as my meat birds. They take longer than Cornish x, but for purebred chickens, give the best carcass so far. They also give lots of eggs, and are sustainable because I can breed more.

That being said, I've got my breeders picked out and am going to sell two breeding pairs to make room for the younger ones coming up. Anyone interested?

Yup I think they might have gotten shrink wrapped. I'm not sure why else I haven't had good hatch rates the three mutt eggs hatched and one Legbar but no Bresse

I'd still like to try some of your Bresse! But I need to process my Cornish first.

Okay, so I finally looked up Blu Kote to see what it was, everyone says it is blue and stains I was thinking - sounds like Gentian Violet - yep that's what it is!! So no reason why it wouldl not work on kiddos. I need to get some so when we go out of town our neighbors have it just in case - so thank for this thread reminder.

It is also what nursing moms can use for thrush in their babies mouths and on them although I am not sure I would use the blu kote for that since it has other ingredients too. Just straight Gentian Violet, of course mom and babe will be blue but it does work!

The only problem with gentian violet is if you have a wound on the back of your hand. You pot gentian violet on it and later go to bed. You per chance sleep on that hand and sweat a little. Next morning yow have a lovely blue spot un your face.

I ended up putting it on my son's knee. He did not understand that the purple was going to be there a few days. He has been asking when it will go away. It got lighter in our pool today but its still there. I like it on the knee, but have no plans for a purple baby face.

I figured I'd ask here first. I've gotta make room thinking of selling my Birchen flock. It's 1 roo (feathered shanks) and 5 or 6 hens (3 with feathered shanks and 3 without). One hen is blue. I'm debating whether I want yo sell one hen. She literally follows me around and always at my feet. Kinda attached to her lol. Also keeping my blue Birchen roo since he is rumpless and again, just too attached. Let me know if anyone is interested.

Why would you go and do something like that? When you know I've been cut off from purchasing anymore poultry lol!! Good luck Brad I just took kabhyper1 two more if my Wheaton Marans! I'm really liking the Maran breeds!
