INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

I was going to ask you today, where is an address we can send letters, for those of us who can't attend?  And what is the date of the next meeting again? I couldn't find it in the thread.

Exactly.  Scratching can cause all kinds of nasty secondary infections and permanent scarring.

There was an episode of Friends where Joey and Phoebe both got chicken pox, so to keep them from scratching, Monica duct tapes oven mitts on their hands.

Just send them to me. There's a meeting on the 16th That's very important and I desperately need people to come. It's at 5 or 6 I'm not sure. Need to find out for sure. Hugs and thanks. It's at 59th and post. At the new government building

Pretty good for an 80 year old man! I cannot say this enough, I am truly grateful for all the thoughts and prayers throughout this ordeal.
A week ago I thought I was going to lose my father. We aren't out of the woods yet, but wow. We are very hopeful for him now.

I got my first egg today!!! So excited. I have 10 reds and 15 black astralorps. They are almost 17 weeks old. Oh btw I'm from Medaryville, Indiana.

My apple tree had a TON of apples last year, I trimmed it way back this year so what grew would grow bigger but there seem to be fewer apples this year. All of the rest of my fruit trees (another apple, a pear and two peach) are still younger, but 6-8 feet tall. So far I've only seen one peach. I'm hoping more fruit will pop in the next few weeks!!! Dang pollinator shortage!!! I'm still hoping to find three more fruit trees on sale this year. I got all of mine for $7 each last year and refuse to pay $30 a tree!!!
We planted our orchard 2 years ago -- ordered them through a nursery & they arrived as bareroot whips. They have really grown the past 2 years -- hard to believe they looked like long sticks when we planted them! Last year we got some apples, a few peaches, 2 quince & 1 cherry (as in the quantity of fruit produced -- not the number of trees!) The pears, apricots & plums didn't produce the first year. This year we have some baby pears, asian pears, quince, and apples. I remember seeing at least 1 of the peach trees with blossoms, but not sure about the rest -- they may not have even blossomed. There was an article in our paper last week about the severe cold damaging fruit trees around our area -- especially the peaches, apricots, etc, so I'm not surprised that we didn't get the blossoms/budding. Our grapes and blackberries survived the arctic weather and the raspberries are loaded right now -- can't wait for them to ripen. We've reclaimed about 90% of the strawberry patch from the evil thistles and had our first real picking yesterday. They are sooo good this year!

The DEERs keep nibbling the tender ends of the branches

I hear those things are edible too.... :-D

Okay, can you pm me your addy again? Or even better, pm me your email and I can write and sign a letter and scan it to you so you can print it right now. I love technology!

In case anyone else missed the gist of what's up here... Each and every one of us can write a letter and pass it on to LPT for this meeting. It doesn't matter where in Indiana you live, and you don't have to mention that in the letter. What the council needs to see is there are a lot of people who have a lot of very good reasons why keeping chickens in an urban environment is not only safe, but a terrific idea for families during hard financial times.

Trust me, if she sends them a big stack of letters in support, that will carry a lot of weight. You have ten minutes somewhere in your day today, and you can make a difference!!

Interesting, I hadn't considered the affect of this nasty winter since 99% of my plants made it through and are thriving, but it makes sense. I was hoping for some more fruit this year after a good year of growth last year, bummer. Your single cherry is hilarious! I hope you get at least two this year! I REALLY want cherry trees but have yet to find them for a reasonable price. I'd like to order online but, as you said, most of what you get that way is a tiny stick that will take forever to produce and the rabbits don't let those live for long here anyway (they have now killed 10 of my 40 trees I planted)! At least I have my one trusty and well established apple tree so I know I'll have some yummy apples soon to go along with my lone peach! My dogs discovered the apple tree last year and would go "apple picking" every day. It was hilarious! I had to patrol to make sure they weren't getting too many since the apple seeds in large quantities are bad for them (arsenic). But apples still are their favorite snack. I cut up apples out of the fridge as treats instead of regular dog treats and they LOVE them!

I don't remember if this was discussed, but are new shirts going to be an annual thing or just every few years making up a new one?  For those of us who won't be able to join the Chickenfest party but would still like a group shirt, should it be more of a "Indiana BYCers" theme and not an event specific theme?  I'd love to have an Indiana BYCers shirt as a member of this group, but I probably wouldn't get one if it were for a specific event.  I've told lots of people about my chicken friends online & have encouraged others to join us.  I think a shirt promoting/showing off (don't know if those are the best words or not) our group could be great discussion starters about our chickens.  This is a wonderful group that I'm proud to be part of!

I actually would like one of each! Lol I normally only wear Tshirts, with my jeans that is. Am proud of my chickens and my affiliation with this group... so gimme conversation starters! Lol I had a dream last night that I bought a shirt that said: " why did the chicken cross the road???? Duh to come to the Indiana BYCers Chickenfest of course!"

I got a little ornamental quince bush and it's finally fruiting this year. Very happy. So are the mulberries the birds planted right next to my house. I need to move them.
