While I would be against making it mandatory, I can see some benefits of preschool for 3 -5 yr olds. But a stay at home parent can teach so many of the preschool topics with ease. To graduate preK, what is really needed ~ count to 10, know the colors, maybe know the letters, be able to hold scissors and glue, get the story plot from a picture book, recognize a few animals, be able to recite a few short rhymes like buckle my shoe.

Before court...why not just tell the owners what happened and try to handle it out of court?

I think the fact that the other owner called the police on the injured person with the dead birds when his dog was at fault, really stopped the let us work this problem out with a handshake method.

@jchny2000 I'm praying for you. And it is great news about the kid. I can hardly wait to see it and take it home. If you need anything in the meantime, please let me know. If you need someone to help out with picking of feed, or putting away the birds (animals), please let us know. I will volunteer both me and my DH to help and I'm sure many others here will help too.

Hi guys, I have several unanswered pm's, Dads procedure didn't go so well yesterday.
He stayed in the hospital overnight. Will catch up tomorrow hopefully, and answer PMs also.
Positive note, My little Oberhasli goat Sophie blessed us with a doeling this afternoon, beautiful little girl!
I arrived home just in time to see the little head and front hooves out
Gramma Sugar, Sophie's mother assisted in the birthing and cleanup, I am so very proud of both my girls.

ok I don't know what I keep doing wrong, but I think you know what I wanted to quote M2H. Thank you for the kind words and support ( everyone ) I guess I am just not 1 for suing, I will let the insurance co. handle it and be done with it I just don't like the added drama in my life I guess. And as an owner of dogs that go walk-about once in awhile, I know stuff happens... although everyone in my neighborhood knows and is in love with my boys ( they call them " the polar bears" ) if they were to cause any damage or stress or anything else I would take care of whatever need to be taken care of. Where as some people don't care. So as far as not being able to contain a dog when he/she really wants to run, I can relate... I have electric fencing, chain link, and wielded wire, in some places I even have cattle panels up to try and contain my " polar bears " if they want out... they get out. My biggest one actually ran his head through a section of privacy fence to get out. He did his visiting and them came home. My polar bears have helped farmers with coyotes, and finding lost sheep, ( all stories I have heard from the farmers they visit ) I guess they just don't have enough to do around here to keep them busy... lol Butt ... ALL 6 of my dogs shots are kept up to date and they are Pet Patrol tagged and Micro chipped. So its not like I am hiding who they belong to if they do a bad thing. So even though I cant keep my LGD's home sometimes, it don't mean I am an irresponsible pet owner. Not ranting, not saying any one said I was, just trying to explain why I'm not out to kill the owner of this dog. I totally understand some one that would be suing the pants off someone in a case like this, but it's just not in my nature I guess.
The owner sent his Son with money last night ( would not come himself ) to pay for the lost birds and a phone number in case the Silkie didn't make it or needed to go to the vet saying he would pay for it. I did take the money for the birds, and the phone number, but I truly don't think it was the owner that is trying to make things right... I think it is the son paying for the fathers sins kind of thing... IMO.
But the little Silkie is going to be fine I'm sure She (?) came out of her house last night and done some ranging with her sissters right before bed time. First time since the attack

I must have missed the ISPA testing post, didnt know anything about it, thanks, I think I will send some of my eggs in. Would be good to know. Thank you for posting about it and thanks for the link too.

I am not one to sue someone either, and I never have, but I was especially concerned about your medical bills. And a broken leg is debilitating and painful. I'm glad your Silkie is pulling through, and I wish you a speedy recovery! Also, don't worry about your wording! I feel like I can communicate much better through writing, and when I talk, I tend to get mixed up.

kittydoc ~ A veterinarian and a lawyer! That's impressive. I guess these days with the people filing lawsuits over every little thing, it's good to be a lawyer when you're any type of doctor. You are also brave for announcing your professions on this thread-- hope you aren't overwhelmed with "free" questions. It's wonderful for all of us to help each other out, but it could get annoying if people ask for free advice. I really doubt that our Indiana thread members would take advantage, though.

I did not like our recent newspaper story with photos that showed teenage boys at the Vanderburgh 4H fair wrestling pigs in the mud. I'm sure those pigs were terrified. You'd think that in this day and age people would have enough intelligence and compassion to not torture animals for entertainment value.

I think I would go crazy if I were a SAHM. Even more so if I had to homeschool. I love working, right now I'm on a week long vacation and already going a bit crazy. Its only day 3 of my vacation lol. Stuck at home with a toddler is not for me. That probably makes me sou d bad but I grew up with parents that worked full time. I was at a babysitters starting at 3 months old. Lucky for us my in-laws watch my daughter while I work for free. Anyways I made the choice to drop out of college because to me its a losing situation. I would rather work and make money than spend a ton and not be able to find a good job like so many of my friends. I'm still paying off the couple years I did go... And its nothing compared to going 4 years. Anyways I finished the new coop and run last night, sort of. I ran out of fencing so made some improvisations to last for now.

Oh and sorry for any weird typos. My phone doesn't like this forum and tends to double tap letters and not autocorrect.

So here it is. The plan was hardware cloth along the bottom and welded wire above it. I had to improvise with some wood and make holes then secure it to the tposts. I will fix it probably tomorrow or tonight. Now I wasn't able to bury it as the grass is super long and I don't have a tiller or gas powered weed eater even. And there's no electric out there yet. So I was wondering can in use chicken wire and some sort of stakes and attach it to the ground that way for now? Like make an apron but not bury it? We will be renting a tiller to redo the driveway next weekend so I could maybe bury it then but until then... I don't want to close them in the coop because I only make it out there once a day usually. I have deer netting over the top for now but will be adding some support posts and actual welded wire or chicken wire over the top as well.

When I went out this afternoon, she looked like she was squinting a lot, holding her eyes closed. I sat and watched her for awhile and her one eye is bubbly. I separated her from her best buddy (who is not happy) and now have her inside (I don't have any other place to quarantine!) I rinsed her eyes with some warm purified water. It seemed like their was a lot of goo around them that had attracted alot of dirt. It seemed to give her some relief, but then it started bubbling up again. I don't know if she is tired, or just her eyes are bothering her so she is constantly keeping them closed. She hasn't seemed to feel bad - she was free ranging, dust bathing, doing chicken things. But now I feel even apart from the eyes she may not feel good - she is snugglier than normal, but is it just that it was afternoon nap time? Cause now she is being rather fiesty and not happy at all with being inside. I do prefer a more natural approach when at all possible.

So what do you all think?

One of mine had a slightly foamy eye about a week ago. I ignored it and it went away. This is not necessarily the right thing to do.

The only time I ever had a chicken with bubbly eyes it had MG. Don't freak out though because the feisty attitude doesn't really play into the symptoms of that. Mine acted more lethargic.

I think she may hav just got some dust in her eye and here eye started watering to try and rid it of the foreign object. How is her eye now? If it just looks irritated as she seems perky that is what I would guess
