Whenever my kids had earaches they pulled on their ears all th time, seems t me that this is the chicken equivalent. To keep her from scratching her poor head completely off you could try trimming toe nails then wrapping cottonballs on her feet with sport tape or possibly making a cone collar (like they hav for dogs) so she can't reach her ears. I know this all sounds odd but maybe it would help?

Minminme ~ Thanks so much for your suggestions! When I have an injured chicken, my mind starts spinning and then I worry about doing the wrong thing to make matters worse. I was wondering about what I could do to prevent her from clawing her wound, and you have great ideas. I just posted that she wasn't clawing herself today, so I'm hoping she'll continue to heal because it was disturbing to see her add to her injury.

Just saw this . . .

@raisinemright You sure do get a lot accomplished! Whether it's a built-from-scratch coop or a kit, it's done in no time. I'm guessing your back is doing better?
Chickibaby1 what is the kelloggs cereal rooster? tail hasnt grown in all the way or molted out.

Actually, tonight him and two other boys are going to our 4-H council to request money for a vex kit (they were unable to compete this year because they are high schoolers and didn't have it). Some of the younger kids in the class are competing this year. But, they were still asked to go up there and do a demonstration for the state legislature. Happy Anniversary!

Just a few of my other birds. I love all of them so much and love showing them off, they are all so beautiful, I love sitting in the yard talking to them and watching them interact with each other.

Soon they will be penned a little bit differently and I won't get to see them interact as much,

What are the best days to go to the State Fair to see chickens? We went last year, but must have missed out, because it was Rabbit time. It was cool to see all the different kinds of rabbits, but I was bummed to miss the chickens and other poultry.
There are two shows. The 4-H one and open show. The 4-H will be there the 5th-8th. I wouldn't go the 5th or the 8th though because that is check in and check out day. So you might not get to see all the birds if you go those days. Then the open show is 10th-13th. I would only go after noon the 11th (all birds have to be checked in by then) or the 12th. The 13th is check out. I would go before 5 that day.

Poultry is to be entered and penned on the 5th by 7 pm (showmanship is at 2, so I would imagine most will be there well before the cutoff time for penning) and released on the 9th between 6 and 9 p.m. so it would seem the 6,7 or 8th would be your best days to see poultry
Poultry is released on the 8th between 6-9. If you leave your birds until the 9th they will be property of the state fair. The 9th is the celebration of the champions.
