INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

Lots of new chicks hatched, glad to see everyone doing well with that. Especially the first time hatchers. We've never done that, but this is our first year for chickens! Who knows what the future has in stock?

Some updated pictures of the coop build:

^^^Some friends over to help. For an hour lol!

^^^I'm installing the cedar shake shingle my wife liked. So much for the
cheap pallet coop!

^^^You can see where the slide out door will be for the poop tray.

The almost finished roof. It's mostly straight, I kept telling myself
I'm building a chicken coop, not a human house.

After reading about the hawk attacks, I wonder if we will let them free range
in our yard. That was funny reading about how the chickens all ran
and hid when the owl was put up!

WOW! I love the shingles!!!!

I haven't had any trouble incubating peafowl eggs in the Sportsman. I do believe peachicks are more delicate than chicks in the first week. But that is just from my personal experience.

I have never had mean or bad-tempered peafowl, either. I find them to be curious and highly entertaining. And what a blessing it is to look up and see a displaying peacock in all his glory!
Thanks for giving our experience with hatching them. I wouldn't mind having one or two, but I'm afraid they will wonder too much or be too active around the road. I only have 2 acres.

Hey all!! You tired of your chickens tearing up your grass and becoming a muddy mess in the pen and having trouble keeping the grass to grow? Well I found the solution for you!! They are called Grazing Frames. Check out this link for all the details! http://www.thegardencoop.com/blog/2012/02/07/grazing-frames-backyard-chickens/ I know I will be building some of these!!

These look like a great idea, however the ad comments that chickens will only take off the top and move on when they have plenty of grazing space and will only scratch until they dig everything up if their space is limited.. well, mine have the whole 2 acres to graze in, but only want to scratch and dig in the same places over and over again... namely my flower beds.. LOL.

So I was in TSC today. They had bantams. Do ameraucana bantams have the same type of markings and coloring as LF? In the chicks that is. I'm so happy to have some of the bigger chicks out of the house but they were sooo cute and tiny!!!

Sally- you might be able to pick up some cheap wheels from someone that does mower repair. We have an old dead one that we are going to us the wheels off of. Or maybe a neighbor that piddles on machinery might have some cheap!
