Yes, Old Rooster, I'm going to suggest to my husband that we park an old school bus in our yard. haha

You are aware that you have an extra arm growing out of your back?

Just joking with you both! Har de har har

On the subject of coop and tractor materials... I'm attaching a photo from last year of a chicken tractor made using PVC pipe.
As
Kiniska mentioned, since wood is porous it can't be cleaned very well, which is why our local Humane Society won't accept donations of wooden rabbit cages for example, or anything else made of wood.

Welcome to PinkE! I agree with variety. When 5 out of 6 of our RIR "pullets" turned out to be "cockerels," we did some trading for hens, and I love having one of each breed, especially since I have a small flock. (RIRs came from Rural King and new ones came from craigslist farm-sale section.

To ellymayRans: It's hard to believe that while reading gabillions of daily posts : - ) --you missed the craigslist explanation of deleting a post:
Anyone can “Flag” a post and label it “spam” or “inappropriate” and automated software removes the post.

You are right you can't leave this thread! Very active, which is very cool.

All I can say about you not starting your coop yet, is you better get very busy, very fast! And no, the weather is not warming up yet, at least not in the 10 day forcast.

Thanks everyone for some good advice, I think I'm getting addicted to this site, there is just so much good info here. I had no idea that there were this many people getting into this. Well, I did get one good idea for a mobile pen to cover the chickens while free ranging, we have a PVC cover for our little fish pond, it's prolly 6X10 and covered in a netting material, very lightweight. It would work great to move around the lawn so they can eat bugs and such. We are gonna get started on our attached chicken run this weekend, I wish it would warm up here....Geeeez, still in the 30's today.....
