Coop Redecoration (aka finishing it)

This was last year. Over the winter we added extra roof panels along the bottom as a snow block and clear vinyl shower curtains around the 3 exterior sides of the run.


This spring we reverted to the summer look, but I wanted something "cute" & functional. Here's Cuddles, our foreman, sitting on the horse over-looking the work.
The screen door was fine, but a neighbor offered her old back door. The frame fit perfectly. I may decide to paint it with red accents.
I bought & painted some wood to go along the bottom & lattice for the top. Also, we finally added a chicken door to the run. We used to leave the coop door open until our dogs started eating the eggs. We then left the run door open until a hawk, squirrel, & the dogs entered the run

Next will come some clear vinyl in frames. This way we only have to screw them in place each winter & store them in the garage over the summer. You may also notice a big pile of bricks. Hope to turn that into a walkway from the coop. Again a donation from a (different) neighbor.

WOW I love what you did! the new door alone is a huge transformation, and the lattice is very appealing!

Had a very awesome birthday. My Mom announced late this afternoon that I was going to my favorite restaurant for (yum) seafood!!! Dad, Mom and my DH decided i needed the fix hehehe. Got to go to my favorite seafood buffet in Indy (Formosa) and loaded plates of crab legs, frog legs, prawns, shrimp, and calamari

yea.. SEAFOOD! I was good and ate my veges, hot chili sauce dipping for the shrimp!! Love to go there. Hope its not 6 months before we go again. DH isn't a fan of seafood at all. He does enjoy my fried fish from the lake when we can go fishing, its just butter, salt and pepper in an iron skillet.

I don't really like to use antibiotics either. I feel like a lot of times it just covers up the problem temporarily. I can't recall of a time I have ever used an antibiotic in my chickens. The only thing I have used on chickens is both forms of sac a chick, vet rx (which I don use anymore because it is glorified Vicks vapor rub), and calf manna powder.

Silkie Chickens: I've been seeing a lot of pretty, fluffy birds here lately. Do they honestly look like that? Don't they get "dirty" or did you just finish fixing them up for the photo? I'm serious b/c I have no experience with them. We only have the common clean-legged, standard sized chickens.

They truly stay pretty fluffy!
