INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

That's how I ended up with 41 hens instead of 40 even. I got an extra Dorking because I wanted one so bad and didn't want something to happen to her if I only got one. No regrets, I absolutely adore my Dorking girls.

How big is your coop? Maybe if you have just one extra, it wouldn't be that big of a deal..?

The coop is 8x4, the run is 6x6. We have two guineas out there, otherwise I could probably get by with 3 more chickens. And maybe the guineas will fly off, who knows. For now they think they are chickens and they go everywhere the chickens do.

I got bantams this year, but now that I'm interested in adding some LF I'd hate to crowd them. The birds have to timeshare the yard with two dogs and when they are cooped, they all seem to hang out in the run together.

hatching vibes to the momma!
Thank you!!! We have ducklings!!! I am not sure on how many but I could not resist and lifted her gently and there was at least 4 but possibly more. They are not very active yet and still wet so I will wait a bit for pics. They are all black so far, I did not ask the seller what colors because I wanted it to be a surprise.

Congrats!!!!

I'm not one for long drives. They make my body hurt and then I lose days. I'm sorry. She sure is gorgeous! I think the mail is going to be my best bet, as nerve-wracking as it can be.
Ouch! That doesn't sound pleasant!!!

And I was really just "teasing"! You need to get what you want and enjoy :D

Another photo of Emma....just for temptation sake

Haha, I was teasing, too. ;) Definitely don't overcrowd with Guineas in there. They can be kind of touchy.

Well, I ended up having to bring a hen inside already. :/ My little Sebright, Rosie, is pretty much naked right now with her molt and was huddled in one of the nests with a blue hue to her comb and wattles the other night. I've learned from my last hard molting hen, I don't want to lose my Rosie! As such, I've tried out my amateur seamstress skills and made her a little sweater out of the leg of one of my niece's outgrown pairs of sweatpants. My little model was very patient with the entire effort. (And don't mind the messy carpet, Rosie decided to dump her feed all over the place. )

"Do I really have to wear this?" She spent most of yesterday trying to get it off...

She's been doing well spending the nights inside and going back out once it warms up during the day. I'm hoping I can make sure she acclimates fine in doing so. I really don't want to have her out of the flock all winter. :fl
