I have been busy working on my new pallet coop. Some of you have seen some of the progress pics already. that i posted before. For the ones that havnt seen them you can find them in the photos section on this thread. Made alot of progress today so here is a few pics of what i accomplished today. i took these photos tonight as i was packing it up and called it quits for the night. This has been only long project glad we had a nice day so i can finally work on it.
Looks like you have been busy. Looking good. I get a lot of plastic pallets at work. Has anyone tried to use them for making a coop? I was thinking of giving the plastic ones a shot.

Cluck~ are you going to break down pallets to fill in between on the walls? You could make built in feeders... or make different rooms? So many possibilities!

I am going to take the slats and do a over lap siding. I framed it all out then will go back and cut holes in it for the windows. Was also thinking of instead of putting a hardwood flooring down using poultry fencing, and putting bedding down on it. When the bedding starts to breakdown it would fall threw the holes and in between the slats thats already there. Then a few times a year i would just rake out some of the top layer and after some time i could rake out some of the COMPOST thats under it and use on garden and plants. Thats just an idea tho. What do you think?

24/7 Indiana Thread~ I'm trying to make our BYC Thread a 24 hour one-- haha. I realized that the reason I seem to be the last post of the night is because I live in one of the few Indiana counties on Central Time. Plus, I've always been a night owl.

Welcome to freeflyin! We used to have those hydroplane races here in Evansville. I'm so sorry to hear about your brother, but it sounds like he has made great progress. I'm sure it helps to have such a supportive family, and the plans for the new home with chickens is exciting! We've only had our small flock for a year, a we had no idea how much joy they would add to our lives, and how therapeutic they could be. Their personalities and antics keep us laughing. No matter how bad the weather is, I spend time with them outside daily by taking them to the field beyond their fenced in yard. It has been beneficial for me as well by doing yard work/getting exercise/being in natural light through the winter, when normally I would have been curled up with a cat indoors. I still love my cats, and when one of us is sick, we like the company of a "nurse cat" in bed. Can't really do that with our chickens, though!

4 the birds: I had mentioned to you before how I loved the close up of your goats' faces! I looked at your other photos this evening it looks like you live in utopia--what a great property and life. Weather report from the south: You had mentioned frogs at your pond. A warm season sound that we enjoy here are tree frogs, which haven't emerged yet. Our daffodils have been blooming for a week despite the crummy weather. I shouldn't complain about the weather since I've heard that our southern area of the State won't be affected by that upcoming snow storm predicted for Sunday.

AATH and animallvoer: That's so cool that you turned out to be neighbors!

It stinks to see one fail to thrive, you just see it coming. These are BBW's so they are not permanent, but its still heartbreaking. I have been feverishly building coop spaces, My Dad-in-laws friend that is elderly, and in poor health plans to meet with us Sunday. She is giving her flock up, so I agreed to take her birds and she can visit them whenever she likes. Lot of roosters, but some hens too. She has some Midget White turkeys I am very excited to get!
I have had 16 hatch so far out of this run. Lots of issues with the humidity in the house, way too dry. Even with the sponges and water tubs I cant get above 60% humidity and have had several stuck/shrink rapped chicks.

i feel awful for then. If they don't make it out a day after external pip I help. Every time they are stuck, so at least i know I am doing the right thing.

Any other advice on humidity is most welcome.

Did someone on here mention a swap meet in Martinsville, IN today?? I thought someone was talking about it a few days ago but a search turned up nothing.

well something, i'm guessing a coon has gotten into my chickens. got one yesterday so I set the traps and the sneaking thing ate the marshmallows, and still got another hen. operation coon kill starts back up at my house this evening!!!!!
