INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

I start carrying water tomorrow, UGH

We turned off the hydrant tonight so it doesn't freeze up. I have a hand cart I load up and put food and water on for individual coops/pens/pastures.
Looks like we possibly will be adding cows ~FINALLY~ if it doesn't fall through, DH got a call tonight from a dairy farmer worker that hauls milk. I told Rob I want a heifer to raise for milk and babies, and a bottle bull calf to feed the family.. They are kept with the cow a week before they are sold. I have high hopes of raising my own calves going forward. I know 2 local farmers that keep bulls so I don't want/need one ourselves. There is always AI if necessary too. They will be Jersey (hopefully) or Holstein (probably) about a week old. I just adore calves, what sweet babies

Really excited to keep them again.

I had buffs, bardrocks, and Rhode island reds before.but I'm not sure what I want now.so many ones to learn about.
How many and what breeds are you looking for?  I'm not close to you but there is a cream legbar breeder close to you that might have some pet quality pullets for sale.

I do sell started pullets and young hens but I'm not really that close to you.

Very good post! And very true too.

It really is ok to share what line your birds came from, and that you know the pedigree they have. We aren't a breed specific group at all, and I enjoy seeing who has what.  Seriously, please feel free to post. I had a terrible time finding the color and type of BCMs myself I wanted. Don't hesitate to post your birds available, it helps others starting out trying to find a breed they want. Our other members are correct on "breed etiquette" but we are here to share and have fun! Thanks very much for posting what you have :thumbsup

I am very much so, but way too far away :( I would love to have him.

Oh that would be awesome. I have 5 hens that need the AM genes to be EE layers. 4 are 2nd generation AM so I want to put AM back in the breed.

Sorry he is spoken for. Someone is driving down from Indy to get him in Thursday. I do have a splash Ameraucana from goo lines for $15 if you are interested in him.

Hi, I have been haunting craigslist looking for hens that lay blue eggs with no luck. The few ads I have found have been sold by the time I inquire, or they are all "americaunas" that lay bluish green eggs. I've also tried Hoosier Topics. Then I got to thinking that maybe someone from Indiana on BYC might be able to point me where else to look. I don't have 20 posts yet, so I can't use the Buy Sell Trade area.

I have heard there is an auction every Thursday up in Strawtown, but I can't imagine there would be special or hard to find chickens there.

I kind of hesitate to put my own "chickens wanted" ad up on CL. Those tend to draw out the scammers, but I guess it might come to that if I don't have any luck through just searching.

So, am I putting this question in the right place? Is there a better area of BYC where I should have put it?

Thanks for any advice.
