INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

I'm really excited to announce that I made a decision on what breeds I want to start out with and have placed my order with Meyer hatchery for an April delivery! Rhode Island Reds and Barred Rocks, females, five of each. Its going to be such a long wait, but gives me plenty of time to have everything ready for them!

New to BYC!! Northern Indiana, and new to chickens. We are gonna hatch, and raise layers and meat chickens. It is now nearly dec and want to know advice about starting indoors now, to start getting eggs asap in the spring. Looking for breeds of layers and meat chickens. Also would like to buy local fertile eggs instead of online.

There are still a few diehards that are hatching. Check out the breed section on BYC, and It will help you decide on what to try out. I actually turned my incubator off a couple weeks ago and comingled flocks, but I know several members are still hatching.

WOW I wish I had room! Much better bird than leghorn, calmer for sure. Love my 2 boys!

I've got me a very nice stud goat. He likes to be told that he is a good boy. He is much larger than my does but still I've started calling him my little Dude. He is now where as big as a cow so little fits but still it is a bit off as he is the largest goat I have.

I'll get som pictures in the next few days. Right now he is a bit new to the goat area and I don't want to spook him. When he gets spooked he sprays like a skunk but aims for himself.
Uh huh! They do have that nasty habit, he is in "rut" so is making himself smelly for his new ladies. Looking forward to seeing him tomorrow, can't wait!

Very good choices. And absolutely a good time of year to be getting them! You may have eggs early October!!!

Yay for new birds coming!

And for the other new person, I would recommend waiting until end of March if you're going to get chicks. Not as stressful that way :D
It is hard putting young birds out during the winter. The stress on the owner isn't easy either, I worry in summer even lol.

I have some and know a little about them. One is pregnant and I wanted to know how long the babies have to stay on the mom
