Yes. They are buff columbian barred bantam cochins. I had some growing out and the opossum got the oldest ones. I have another pair still I. The house and eggs due to hatch this coming we'd that should yield a high frizzle possibility. I'll have to get pictures of my young pair.

So, I'm considering the possibility of buying chicks in more than one batch. How broad of an age spread is okay for chicks that will all be raised together?

as long as you have to spots for them they will be fine until they get bigger around 4 months...then you can put them together...my experience...put them in the coop with the others at night...in the morning they don't really bother the others...also you can have more then one roo in the same coop/.run....I have 3 with 40 hens

well 13 hatched and some still hatching..yea..getting practice for the pheasant season soon to start

I am new to raising chickens! I have been hovering on this board since November and you all have proven so helpful! Thank-you! Right now, we are raising 3 adult egg laying chickens on half an acre in Pendleton/Anderson area. However, our house is on the market, as we are looking to move to more acreage to raise and breed chickens. I just successfully incubated and hatched eggs over Christmas - we had 10 eggs (6 Lavendar Orpington and 4 Sussex), 7 hatched. I had to aid two of the babies and only one of those should have been left to nature due to malformations. We ended up culling that little guy. One of our other successful hatches got its head stuck in between the lid and lip of the incubator and died, so we now have five beautiful chicks. I have been faithful to vaccinate against Mareks and New Castle diseases and am looking into NPIP this spring. I have 4 children that I homeschool who are getting plenty of education in this whole process, as well! We are finding this so addictive! We look forward to talking with you more in the upcoming months!

The question on sand was a good one. I've been trying to decide on whether I should use Sand or Shavings. I think I've decided on sand though but I may change my mind later.

I'm so excited, I've got to put my incubator out and clean it up so I can start hatching. I'm going to try- again!- to hatch some Welsummers. Faulty thermometers are a nightmare.

I have put chicks that were 4 days old in the brooder box with chicks that were 11 days old. The number of the younger ones was the same as the number of the older ones and space was plentiful I had 2 warm spots and 2 feeders and 2 water spots. After 24 hours 1 feeder and 1 water and all were getting along. I'm doing it again this brooding season. I will mix them up to 4 weeks apart but I won't mix day olds with 4 week olds it is closer to 10 day olds with 5 week olds. The heat has to be right for all and there needs to be multiple feeding / watering areas. Also the youngers should be a group together so not 1 tiny one with 10 big bullies.
