INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

Eggs arrived this morning. They are resting and will be set tomorrow! Two were busted so I'm hesitant to believe they were handled very well. Beautiful eggs though! Huge too! Lol!
Oops! Pics would be nice huh!!?

how the heck do you candle an egg like that!

Occasionally, I search for other folks that want to be contributors to our thread.
A contributor helps maintain our member/links/activities page. Some of our contributors include
@bradselig @Mother2Hens @atrueb00 @SallyinIndiana @racinchickins @pipdzipdnreadytogo @Leahs Mom and many others, some that are not currently active on our thread. oh and myself @jchny2000 lol!

I have emailed a few members that offered to help assist keeping our member list current. If you are comfortable working with spreadsheets, and/or use google docs, we need your help. We are also looking for people with other brainstorming ideas to help our member page grow.
About our thread created by @atrueb00 and @Mother2Hens thank you both!

I'm going to do some reading but from all my research til now I do not believe you can candle them! Sigh! Talk of how the egg feels is a best guess kinda thing and "tap test" but I think that's more towards lockdown.

Yeah I had hoped my odds of hatching were increased with the added eggs but now I'm not so sure about that!!

Really not looking forward to the next few days. So cold!!! By time I had all the water changed this morning, some had begun refreezing, ugh. Upped the protein by mixing game chick starter in the feed and giving them whole corn before dusk. MY OEGB will eat a whole corn kernel, pretty surprised to see that! They are sure scarfing up the mealworms too. I need a warm enough day to pull all my bins out and divide up into more bins. I won't do it in the garage its too dusty and I don't want that dust in any of the house. Mealies are still thriving just growing slower in the garage.
My pekin are laying regularly again, but the eggs are froze by time I find them. My blue swedish don't appear to be laying yet, but the drake is finally maturing. Have some hit and miss goose eggs showing up, but seem to be laid early mornings and also froze by time I find them, ugh! I am still shopping pluckers also.. DH insists he can build one. I do believe he can, but when will he

(lol sorry DH)? So I have my heart set on 2 models, @racinchickins has a very well built one I am impressed with. Its probably going to be the way I go. Absolutely adding the water reservoir and clear door to my sportsman this year.

Welcome Back @EmSteele !

I just returned to the thread too, but haven't been gone as long as you have. I was shocked to hear about what happened to your flock. Typically, we talk about wildlife predators, but not deranged people as predators. Anyone who kills animals for fun is a dangerous person. I am so sorry that you and your flock suffered, and I hope the killers are caught. I posted this link the other day that I happened to run across. It has tons of information about different animal-related laws in each state. It's a really informative site. IN - Cruelty - Consolidated Cruelty Statutes | Animal Legal ...
And yes, this thread is a wonderful support group! I really missed everyone when I took a couple of months off because I just had too much going on.
@ellymayRans I'm now sure that my tiny Monday girl is the one who laid the teeny tiny tan egg that I posted a couple of days ago. I saw her get up and start singing the egg song today and she left another teeny tiny tan egg. It's so interesting that her two sisters lay two different shades of green eggs.
It's 3:30am (working late), but I wanted to read posts and make a short one.

I posted this on FB and was requested to repost here.

This is a Chicken Fest Post.
There has been talk of having auctions for hatching eggs. The eggs would be donated by someone in our group and the money from the auction would go to help fund the Chicken fest. An auction might even have multiple flock owners willing to donate and the winner would have their choice of eggs. That would depend on the availability of eggs.

I'm looking for input. Are there buyers / bidders out there wanting eggs. Timing, is there a bidder right now that would like to pick up this weekend? If not what is the soonest time frame to start bidding?

Are all potential bidders comfortable making their bidding posts public, meaning in your facebook settings you need to make sure your posting setting is set to public and not friends of friends at the time you post your bid?

Also it was requested that I note why the auctions are on FB and not BYC. It is due to the ease of following the auctions. Many auctions on BYC move so fast and available eggs change so much, sometimes keeping up is not simple for the new bidders, myself included.
This sounds like fun. I am on the hunt for some eggs right now. I need to get something white or silver based ( not white leg horns) so I can eventually do red sex links. Can you direct me to where to go on Facebook, I have looked for the indiana group but couldn't find it. Thanks
