the Chimera link posted seems it hasnt been updated in quite a while - we have a Chimera EE roo & he's a very neat guy - very pretty & great personality
i have posted pics of him in the past
thanks to ellymayrans, I cant stop picturing you licking your eggs before putting them in lock down. It is a very funny mental picture! Lol!! I read that gynandromorphs or chimera are made from one egg being fertilized by two roosters... all I have are cochin and polish boys, so this should be interesting!
I'm willing to try anything to improve hatch rates here!
Pulled a few more dark eggs as I could tell they weren't developed to day 14...soo hoping this Brinsea was worth the buy!! Lockdown for us here Thursday for Easter HAL!
Welcome Bawk!! All the RK in the greater Indianapolis area get their chicks from Townline. I called them all! Not sure beyond that but if you call and ask to talk to the chicken person they are great. Orsheln in Indy (well Greenfield and Shelbyville) get theirs from Estes and Tractor supply from Privett. Agrarian (urban farm store in Indy) get's theirs at Meyer.
Seriously - basic courtesy! Are you that inconsiderate? I just don't understand how people can just blow you off. Why are they not answering the phone? Honestly b/c they are too chicken (no pun intended, okay well maybe it sorta was!) to have the courtesy to say "I changed my mind". I know the first buyer who stood up @kittydoc blew her off for a whole week.
We had a buyer not show up tonight. I had scheduled a person this morning to meet up with my Dh at 6:30pm the same time he was meeting another person. But that second person never showed up and won't return phone calls. While I hope nothing bad happened, I almost think it must be something bad since they can't even answer the phone to say sorry we changed our minds.
On to better fun! Easter HAL has been quite fun as it is my first time participating in any HAL. I set 31 into a new (new to me) brinsea, all from my flock, with all covered by my different Roos. I have only had to pull 1 at my day 13 candling. Lockdown on Thursday for me. My silkie broody is being an awesome momma to her newly hatched Cochins and silkies. My other broody is sitting intently on more Cochin eggs and I recently broke down and put more eggs in that awful styro again! I swore I wouldn't but I did! Set some shipped porcelain and Millie d'uccle eggs and slipped in a couple of my own Cochin and silkie egg. One of my white silkies finally started laying and I just separated them so I don't know if what I sat will be pure or not and it was one of her first eggs but I just went ahead and set it to see what would become of it.
So let's see. That's 59 chicken eggs and 4 Emu eggs. Lol! My aunt set 12 of my eggs for the Easter HAL too!
Of course some of these babes will go onto other homes but will have lots of little ones soon. Well hopefully. Haha!
I have 38 out of 40 eggs going into lock down on 4-1. Mostly barnyard mix from my farm and kabhyper1's. But there are a few of kab's silkie's and Cochin eggs in there. Hopefully I get a high percentage of hatching.
Wow, over 150 posts! I have only been gone for a few days, busy with my first broody hen who just hatched some eggs! All 6 hatched and she is an excellent mama. 4 D'Anvers and 2 Silkies! Also, put 13 eggs in the incubator for a little girl who raises silkies for 4-h show, I added 11 of my own.
We had thought we found a good place for our Rooster, Rico. We were going to drop off our Rooster at a guy who inquired about him on craigslist...It got close to the time to load him up in the car and take him...and I told my husband that I just cannot do it, he is my first rooster ever, and he is not always mean at all. I told him that I trust his judgement and that I would find something wrong with anyone. So my husband left, I got a call about 20 minutes later with him saying "NO WAY am I leaving him at that house" For my husband to say that, it must be bad. So back to the drawing board!
EMERGENCY! My friend woke up to find her cat got into the brooder. Her 3 year olds RIR chick is gone and she is desperately trying to find another RIR about the same age - 1 week. A red sexlink would probably work too. Anyone have any or know someone who does? Please PM me, thanks!
Greetings, peeps. Wanted to say hello. We have had chickens in the past. Currently are chicken- less :-(.
We are really hoping to get some CCL pullets, Welsummer pullets and a Welsummer roo.
This may be a big dream but if we could choose, those. We are trying to avoid hatcheries also, especially based on our research about the Welsummers. Trying to get a docile roo especially.
Wanting to start with baby chicks. We enjoy our flock and hope to have some before long. Look forward to meeting everyone.
