Hey everyone, its OK and not just about chickens if you want to discuss other animals or just tell us about yourself. Its really interesting to share an "about me" so we get to know each other! currently I have 8 chickens, 4 GLW, 1 EE, 1 BR and 2 CX that aren't going to the freezer, 4 guinea fowl, 4 Muscovy duck, 4 Embden and 2 African geese for my fowl. 2 pigs, Hereford and Landshire. 2 alpaca are my current livestock. Plans to add beef cattle and milking goats this spring! 1 pug mix, several barn cats and a big family here. I have 15 australorp chicks due to arrive any day. Soo Excited!! Both my parents are with us, in their late 70s. Our 2 daughters are grown but still at home, and in school. Friends will bring a dish and join us for dinner often! I love a big family gathering with lots of laughter and stories. My DH and i are both love to laugh and meet new people. I am retired, former nutritionist, factory worker, animal control, and controller/tax preparer/accountant for a construction company.
Please jump in and post the information if you have a grain or feed mill, a supply store that's been helpful and saves you money. A processor that you have if you aren't comfortable with harvesting unwanted livestock. or animals you have raised for food for your family. Breeders that sell eggs, chick or started birds that will help another member. Sharing this information will help us all! I will post a list to get us going when a moderator replies.

I've been on BYC for years, but with so many new people I'll introduce myself again.

I live south of Greencastle. I have more chickens then I'm going to mention as around here some already call me the Crazy chicken lady !!

We show open and my daughter shows in 4-H. My grandkids are to young for 4-H but they show open also. I show silkies, blue wheaton old english, bantam and LF dark cornish, Nankins, Light Brown Bantam Leghorns,Bantam ameraucanas in BBS and Lavender, We also have other LF, but we usually just show them in the fair as I just can't get them all in the van to take to the open shows.
In LF I have Light Brahma, welsummer, Buckeyes and cochin.

Hello all. I'm located just south of Ft Wayne. I have a small flock of hens (red and black sex link, naked necks, polish, OEG, and d'uccle) as well as 2 Campbell ducks. I started my flock last spring and will be adding to it this spring. I'm going to be giving my hand at hatching some eggs so it should be quite the experience.

Little Ameraucana Mom, from your list of chickens and locations, I believe I recognize you from Facebook? I've talked to you about getting eggs in February. Still very interested in doing so.

do you have any polish hens?

Hello all! I'm at Westport, about 19 miles east of Columbus, so not too far from you Monroe County folks. Have been on several threads in BYC that tended to die out as folks got too busy or went on to other pursuits, so am glad to see some fresh starts.
Got into chickens about seven years ago, although had been around them a lot when I was young. Wanted 4 laying hens, so went to Orscheln's and bought 2 Plymouth rock and 2 RIR chicks, but the bantams were oh-so-cute and my aunt always had them, so 4 of those.
As of this summer I had around 200, including the peeps, but have thinned my flock considerably for the winter. I show bantam white crested black Polish, large fowl white Polish, LF black copper Marans, silkies, and bantam cochins. Also have peafowl, Appenzeller spitzhaubens, a pair of tolbunt Polish, a few light Brahmas, Americanas, and other miscellaneous barnyard birds.
Unfortunately some of my thinning was because of a virus, possibly brought home from a show. On the plus side of that, my show stock was completely isolated except a young BCM cock of whom I was particularly fond and who had shown well. I lost him and several barnyarders and am in the process of vaccinating everyone else and doubling or tripling my biosecurity. Obviously I can't sell or show any of those who might have been exposed even after vaccinating, so guess they'll be hanging around. I guess this is something of a caveat to those new to poultry--practice biosecurity.
Happy to see some old (not in age, certainly!) BYC friends as well as new blood here!
