LOL.

I feel stupid! I set my bresse eggs on the 7'th I wrote in my notes they will need locked down on the 18'th for some reason?!?! So last night I forgot to put them in lock down. I get up this morning, candle all of them and see the development is way behind anything I have ever seen this far along?? I'm thinking to myself this can't be right. They seem to be on day 10 or 12 not day 18. So I read back in my notes and count my days. Haha this is where the stupid feeling comes in play. They don't get LD until the 25'th. wow us all I can say. On a good note all but three are developing great. Just 3 glowers out of 41!!

Silly question for those of you that hatch shipped eggs. Do you pick them up at the post office like chicks? I'm worried about them bouncing around in a truck all day since we tend to be at the end of the delivery route.

In other news, I should never leave overnight! In addition to two missing chicks I have a Jubilee that's limping :( I suspect the cat. I brought her into the house with a buddy and will clean her up in a bit. She's moving her leg but not her foot, any ideas on what else I should do for her?

Here's the injury the best I can see right now.

I need help from the masses. One of my Jubilee hens (a little over a year old) is lethargic, sleepy, not moving much, with a high fever (didn't use a thermometer, but her vent just about cooked my finger).  No discharges anywhere.  No comb discoloration.  No visible wounds.  Nothing in her crop, nothing I felt in her vent as far as my finger would go except a tiny amount of poop.

I've given her an injection of penicillin, a tepid bath, and am getting ready to give her some subcutaneous fluids.

Thoughts???  I noticed her acting "sleepy" yesterday, but it was nearly bedtime so I didn't think anything of it.  Today she had her eyes closed right through DH running the rototiller and the rest of the flock in full freak-out mode, which is when I decided she needed to be brought inside.

All I can think of is symptomatic and supportive care at the moment.

TIA!

My first thought is egg bound or one busted inside her. Is there any visible stuff seeping out of her vent or the fluff appear like there has been? I had a large Blue Copper hen like that only I could see a slight stream of stuff coming out of her. I thought she'd pass because all I'd ever read was if that it busted inside it kills them. I cleaned her up and made her as comfortable as possible but after 2 days she was fine. She was like that 2 days before I realized there was something off. She stood about the same place throughout the day and didn't want to move or barely open her eyes. She lays very large eggs and has since been fine. This was last summer.

I hope she comes out of it.

If anyone is interested, I still have Midget White Poults and some mixed Variety poults for sale.  Some people have enquired, and I can't remember who they were.....Brain fade is a terrible thing.

Without looking it up are the MW a good table bird? DH and I have been discussing giving them a shot.

We got good reviews on the ones we processed last year.

I always try to have one held for pickup. Even if I can't get them until I get off work they are at least being stored in an air conditioned building.

Things are going better after my egg debacle last week. I have had several customers come back and request more chicks and now want roosters as well!!!! LOL nothing says satisfied customer like someone later WANTING a rooster!!!

Equine boot camp started yesterday, I rode three horses after 9 months of no riding. I came through it surprisingly well. They all refrained from attempts on my life. I am sore in some super awkward places today though!

In sad news, my Pee Wee passed yesterday. She never was quite right and I consider it a gift to have had her for a year and a half. RIP sweet girl.
