INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

We know all about removing the stink from our dogs. (One was living in our backyard last fall, so treating our dogs was a weekly event.)  The Standard Skunk Remedy Recipe is:

In a plastic bucket, mix well the following ingredients:
1 quart of 3% Hydrogen Peroxide
1/4 cup of baking soda
1 to 2 teaspoons liquid soap - like Dawn

Then you rub the concoction into fur, let it soak for maybe 5 min, rinse, & repeat as needed.  Finally, wash as normal.  We tried something from a pet store one of the times, but the above recipe actually worked better.  I would guess using the concoction to wash items in the area would help with the smell.

I have thankfully never had to deal with skunks and their odor but a friend previous co-worker was told to use oxiclean to remove skunk odor!

Thanks guys!

Trapped a skunk out by my coop last night. Now it STINKS back there! I think it was to blame for my chick disappearances. Would a skunk eat a chick whole, feathers and all? Anyone got a good way to get rid of the smell?
my neighbor suggested rubbing tomatoes or tomatoe paste on the side of our pole barn when I mentioned that I thought a skunk had sprayed it. The barn is white so I never tried the tomatoes. A red barn maybe but not on a white one.

The smell went away after the first big rainfall. We are looking at a lot of rain in the next few days here so maybe you won't have to worry about the smell.

i too have heard about tomatoes too. Thou, i think Faraday40 recipe is way better. I've also heard of using female cleaning product. i'd say the name but, there are kids on the site.lol

The anti-skunk stink recipe posted by @Faraday40 is the best one out there. It's what most veterinarians use when people bring in their stinky dogs. Tomato products is an old "remedy" that doesn't work very well (probably about the same as the expensive stuff sold in pet stores that also doesn't really work well.) Sometimes, cheaper really is better!!

Been super busy around here so haven't been on for a while.  At first I thought I'd try to catch up, but then settled on just the last few pages.  So congratulations, condolences, good wishes, and welcomes to anyone who has needed or deserved them!  :thumbsup :hugs :clap :welcome

I had thought about going to the Southern Ohio show this weekend, but they sent back my entry saying Indiana people weren't welcome this time (because of the AI incident in Whitley county).  I had been debating whether I wanted to take my birds around others anyhow until the AI dies down (hopefully it will, and soon!).

So this segues to the next topic:  I had a vet from the BOAH test my flock today.  Within the last week 3 birds died and another is down but still breathing, so I panicked and called them.  The samples won't be tested until Tuesday, but he didn't think it looked like AI but more like a coincidence that it all happened within a few days.  So I'm quarantined until he gets back to me, which is okay--didn't plan on going anywhere around birds anyhow.  I'm not going to bite my nails until then--nothing I can do about it in any case so may as well go about business as usual.  :caf

Awe sorry for the losses. I hope you get an all clear!!

Wish me luck! Day 28 for my Pea eggs is Tuesday but as of about 20 mins ago I have 2 of 4 with pips

Now my issue is one has pipped what appears just too far down and of course with another pipped I don't want to meddle and screw the others up! I wish I could put each in there very own incubators!!
This is me pulling out my hair!!!!
What do you think? I know I didn't draw the air cell on them and of course now wishing I had!

The top here is the 1 I'm concerned about. It's pipped way down the left side. The bottom pic is where I'd like to see it!?!

We are needing to sell some Muscovy ducks. They need to go soon!
Anyone in the northern part of the state looking to add Muscovy ducks to there barnyard?

Other news here.........Out of a dozen turkey eggs, I believe only two are viable. Day 28 is the end of this week.
The two dozen set two weeks ago seem to look much, much better.
Of course, this all depends upon my knowing what I am looking at when candling. I've never really done that much as I just hatched chicken eggs and did now how to do it.
But, with the turkey eggs this Spring, I decided to try to learn how to candle. The internet and all the information and great pics is an amazing tool.

And, once again it's time to thin out the layers. The laying hens seem to multiply in that coop - crazy how they do that.lol
