Any one in the market for a quad of mallard ducks? 1 is male and 3 are female. I have them listed at $100 on CL but am will to offer a hefty discount to people on here.

Now I'm a little irritated. So the "pea" that I posted about earlier has me thinking it's a poult. Turkey poult that is!! It has that little nub on its beak. With the big bump on its head I was distracted. .now I see this. Opinions from Turkey owners??

Why don't we wait and see when it's dry? It's not colored like any turkey poult I've yet raised, so I'd keep an eye out for an abscess or other health issue, just in case. That said, what color egg did it hatch from?

Actually now that I think about it the poults little nub isn't on their beak is it. This is. Hmmm

So after delawarmomma posted that someone abandoned four chickens across from her business being the chicken lover I am agreed to take them in she said last night she was going to capture them and post picture but I have yet to hear from her or see the pics I fear the worst I hope she is ok... But just a curiose question she said she thinks they are bantams and would be my first bantams anyone know if they do better with chicks who are 2-3 months old or full grown full size chickens

So guys, I actually went out and took pictures today. Wanted to share my muscovy babies, have had a lot of questions recently about them.
So here they are, starting with my adults and my beloved Huey, top duck hen and grade AAA momma. Huey is a black pied, look close to see the tiny surprise!

Yes, thats a death stare. Huey has never bitten me, but she sure squeaks if i touch her eggs.

Huey Jr, hatched last year, very wild little hen. Still brooding.


Donald, my other "top hen" also brooding. She was taking her daily break. Chocolate pied.

Have a few other broodies in places I can't reach, and my black drake & hens were all out in the pond.
Why I love Muscovy...
They are not as messy, sloppy and loud as a typical mallard derived type duck. They trill, peep, and whisper, and their conversations are "haaha hahaaha" sounds also very quiet. Lots of tail wagging, head bobbing and air gobbling, its hysterical to watch. Usually its when the drake is walking with his ladies and the girls are arguing over him. Muscovy are excellent free range birds, and do fly. The hens only, drakes are too heavy usually. They are social, and bond to a person. Huey will fly and land on my shoulder just to say hello. My black drake follows me around "Laughing" haahaa.. in scovy talk, he wants a handful of something yummy. They are huge insect eaters, slugs, mosquito larva, worms, bees whatever they can find. Summer months they don't visit the feeders often.

What I don't like, sharp claws. They climb trees, the nails are so sharp they will cut you just by a brush of the feet. Huey has dug her claws on my shoulder before, getting her balance. If the drakes fight, they can harm each other terribly. Drakes do fight! Much worse than any other species I have seen. Breaking a fight up is a task. Muscovy are not a year long layer, they only lay seasonally. Usually eggs start in march. They can lay through july depending on weather, sometimes longer.

The table value and thrift of this duck breed makes them worth keeping for me.

We do raise the Muscovy for food here also, so I select my best drakes annually. They stay in the breeding pools. The rest go to freezer camp. My mother likes my roasted duck so much she thinks its beef. We do keep pekin here also, but hands down the muscovy tops the familys preference for table birds.

URGENT HELP for abandoned birds!!!!
Some idiot has abandoned three banty hens and a roo in the parking lot across the street from my business. There is some natural shelter and I have been feeding and watering them but they need a home ASAP! I am terrified they will get hit by a car on High School Road especially this weekend with all the fireworks!!! If anyone is interested please send me a message and we can get together and catch them. Thank you!!!

Wow, thats sad. I hope something worked out for them! We have misc birds dumped here pretty often, the worst was a big flock of guinea keets. Really, they could have just knocked on the door and asked! It was a nightmare, several killed in the road, and my few neighbors were over asking if they were mine. Could have been a much better end result for the poor things, if that person would have just said hey, I need help. 3 are still here, and are fairly tame and I was able to rehome the rest that survived.

I would LOVE Emu but DH says a loud NO every time I even mention it. He doesn't want a bird as tall as him, ROFL! But he wants cows.. I mean c'mon they are eye level too....right? And a lot less weight to step on your foot. Let me tell ya, the steel toes wont help if the hoof lands on the rest of your foot.
And the fencing is a big thing too, they are big birds, thats what really has me stopped on Emu. Love my guineas, will always have them! Adore Peas but had bad luck with them.

I need help. I was a sucker for my boys and got 2 ducks. Well for some time I have seen 1 changing and knew he was a drake. I was fine believing the other a hen. Well today I noticed green features on the "females" head. Now I know we actually have 2 drakes. We told them if they were males we would be processing them. Now I feel horrible and really don't want to have to do that.

Would anyone be in the market for a trade? I have plans to hook up with @jchny2000 and will choose to get some scovies but I don't want but 1 drake and I don't want my son to know. Lol. Soo...quite the dilemma I've gotten myself into I know!!

The one we thought was a female is a Khaki Campbell. Anyone??

He can come here if you don't have takers. I tell everyone, I can't promise the boys stay through winter, but "pet" birds usually do like my huge BBB turkey, Bacon..

I was on my way to my Uncles house this morning, had to turn around, 1/4 mile down the road I found 4 dead chickens. It looked like they had been hit on the highway. So hubby and I go to clean them up, realize they are not ours and clean them up anyway. Back on my way to my Uncles, About 3/4 of a mile down the road I see 2 more on south side of highway and 3-4 more on the north side. I'm guessing they fell out of someone's truck? Not really sure. My neighbors have chickens, but I have never seen them out free ranging, and mine never go towards the highway. I wish people would take better care of their animals!!

Its really upsetting! Please rant all you need. If you don't want an animal, please, find it a place that does. We have so many cats abandoned here its depressing. They won't survive, the few that do is because I was able to trap them. I have some friends I can reach out to that will spay and release to their barns.

The bump.. is it hard, or feels pliable? It may be a natural deformity, I have seen some pretty weird things hatching. I have a pekin duck with one eye, one ear. Not breeding that one! Peas and poults are so alike I would wait at least 3 days. This babys beak looks very narrow, so it may not be a poult.By the 3rd day, you will clearly see a tiny snood developing.
