I have a 2 day old buff orphington that has a little piece of shell still stuck on her little belly button. I just noticed it when I was checking for pasty butt. Do I soak her for a couple of minutes or should I put Neosporin or something on her to moisten her skin so it detaches on its own.
I'd let it be. It will fall off when its time. My recommendation is to treat it much like a baby's umbilical cord and do nothing at this point.
Good post, I use them also. Works very well for larger birds.@Indyshent : when we had our injured rooster in the house in a 2'x4' brooder box, we used towels on the bottom, but made for messy & frequent laundry. We then upgrade to putting an old blanket on the bottom, then covered with puppy training pads or the bed pads for incontinence . just throw out & replace after they are soiled.
Welcome to our threadJust want to say hi and I'm happy to know there is a thread for Indiana!!!
Quote: Yikes, prayers your way! Definitely relist. When we bought our last home, I always checked into newest listings first.
So my bird I wormed the other day was looking better. She was eating and getting some color back. This morning I went out and she's deadI'm thinking I might send her for necropsy. I just don't know what's going on with my flock!![]()
I'm sorry, mysterious deaths are the worst. I would do the necropsy for peace of mind. The diagnostic lab should give you a free necropsy a year, I never got charged for the one I sent even though they quoted me $140 or so to do it.
Did you send it to ADDL or another lab?
I ended up driving it up to the ADDL because I didn't want the body to sit at the post office over the weekend and the bird died on a Friday.
