I remember you posting about her 4 H. I thought she done an Awesome job.
Thanks for posting the pic too cute.

I'm glad there are so many new members on here. I barely recognize anybody.
For those newbys who aren't familiar with me, I am an "Honorary" Indiana-ear. Lol. I'm from West Virginia. I haven't been on here hardly at all since about April of this year due to some fairly serious medical issues in this "old" body. I am still facing a couple surgeries probably by Mid November but that depends on "other" issues I'm dealing with. Anyway I've bn a member for two years and a chicken owner for about three years. I have a mixed flock of large fowl (had a bunch of Silkies too but sold them to a family who wanted them for 4H show birds) a couple ducks and recently acquired three "Narangensette" Turkey poults.
So anyway I'm glad to be able to post again and really miss all my long distance besties. Hellooooooo everybody!!!!
Welcome back!!

Have any of you ever seen a solid ( so far ) black EE ??? I hatched one out in the incubator a few weeks ago and so far all black feathering. I cant wait to see her all grown up. Hope she stays solid black I think that would be so cool.

I have a solid black EE--bought the pullet at a swap meet a few years ago.

Ok I have a strange ( to me ) but funny story with a question at the end. Are ya ready???????????

this is Splash, she has 7 chicks 2 are black??? whats up with that you might ask.

This is Shy Shy, she has 3 chicks 2 of which are White??? and again, whats up with that.
Now splash has 9 babies and Shy Shy has 2 .
So the math does not add up ( I could have miss counted ) but Shy Shy was bread with a Partridge Roo and Splash was bread with a Buff Partridge. So not hard to tell at all whose chicks belong to who....
Every time I go out there they have swapped some out. o and Shy Shy's first chick ( blk ) also keeps a chick She is only 11 weeks old, she sat the last week with her mom. And after they started hatching she actually covered 1 chick right next to her mom. The first night after Shy's hatch I went to check on them and splash and Shy had all the babies and the eggs still to hatch. So I put the white babies back with Splash ( they were 2 days old ) and kept the blk chicks and remaining eggs with Shy. Now mind ya there is a flor to celling front to back divider between the 2 hens.... The next morning Splash had 2 blks with her out free ranging and Shy had 1 blk and 2 whites in the brooder with her and her older chick, ok what ever I didn't mess with them.
now every time I go out it all changed!!!!
Now the questions begin to bubble up in my mind, why are they swapping chicks all the time? Should I put a stop to it some how? Will one mom's realize " hey this is not my kid " and kill the odd one? or chase it off?
This is Splash's 3rd clutch ( I think that's what it is called ) and Shy's 2nd.
If anyone has an answer to any of the above questions I would love to hear it, I'm just bewildered at it all......
I have a cochin hen that was temporarily housed with a silkie trio. She and the two silkie hens hatched at least 8 babies in the past couple of days. I seldom see the same babies with the same hen--it's like whoever I see right away is my mama for now.

I think it has a lot to do with learned behavior.. Chickens tend to learn things from each other younger hen sees older hen with a group of chicks a say "hey I wanna try that" since the older hen is it's mother and fairly nice it says" cool less I gotta deal with tonight" chicks are like a warm butt is a warm butt.. Trust me today I had my chicks out and I was mocking my rooster(Henry) by making a crowing sound and for some reason all 17 chicks decided to come running at me and hide under the chair I was sitting in as if I was warning of danger... Hour later they were out playing again and to see if they would do it again I crowed... Half ran to me the other half ran to another nearby chair...

Goodness, I am about burnt out dealing with chicken sickness. I feel like never a day goes by where everyone is fine! Currently I am dealing with bumblefoot in my rooster...which he was running a fever. Wookie, my crooked beak (from injury) who's beak is growing out and now everything is shifting hopefully back in place. Which is causing him to have some drainage....I am assuming is from his sinuses. This stinkin bout of coccidiosis and necrotic enteritis is going to be the death of ME I swear it! Just when I think we are passed it, Someone shows signs again. And I am doing EVERYTHING in my power to keep things dry and sanitized. Also tube feeding and antibiotics for all the birds that are showing symptoms. I am exhausted, and feel like an awful chicken mom. But I am trying!

Okay that is enough of my venting! Figured I better get it out before the weekend is over! LOL

Anywhooooo! Happy Sunday! Off to round up all the birds meds. And maybe mix up a Mimosa for myself!

In case anyone is interested, I have 5 young roosters from a Nankin female or an English game cross and who knows what males? They mostly look like Nankins. Anyway, they are free if anyone wants them. PM me if interested. Thanks.

Hello Fellow Hoosiers! Does anyone have 1-2 year old hens or pullets of the following breeds: Welsummer, Rumpless Araucana or 2nd generation, dark laying, Olive Eggers? I am almost done putting together my group of fancy colored layers and would like to add one or two of each of these. I have plenty of land and shelter and do not plan to breed any birds, only have hens. Thanks for any help, I have met so many wonderful people around this state and am excited to see so many quality breeders! Completely willing to pay fair prices for quality birds!
