INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

I don't remember if I mentioned it here, but I'm thinking I didn't... Anyway, when Frou-Frou passed away, my dad bought a rose bush for her and planted it by her grave. Well, to my surprise, it already has a bloom opening up on it!

Just a little something to make me smile.

Her grave marker, which I'm also thinking I didn't post? It's one of those footprint stepping stone kits with her feet in it.

Along with the rose bush (which is directly behind where she was buried), I'm thinking of getting some annual flowers and flowering bushes to put around her as a memorial garden. I'm no gardener, but at least I can make it look kinda pretty.

Also, Crash duck says hi.

Thats a beautiful thing for her, and all part of the closure for you.
Crash looks all grown up!

So as far as I know one of eight of my Araucanas hatched the other seven haven't so I'm not sure what to do... One will get lonely and it might be another week before more hatch.. The others are about ready to go outside any advice?
How late are the eggs, I wait 5 full days past hatch date unless I smell odors to remove unhatched eggs.

WORMS!

i saw a tiny something moving in the poop. Unless she happened to poop on a bug, it's worms. This is a good thing, right? (Meaning it's treatable.)

The poultry wormer I have on hand is "Strike III, Hygromycin B Medicated Feed" It's a pellet to add to the feed to de-worm the whole flock. Should I start there? Is there another product I can give for more immediate relief for Cuddles? (She's not been eating pellets since appetite is off. Only yogurt & tiny bit of egg.)

Would worms cause the yellow poop or could she also have another type of infection besides?
Not sure, but that definitely answers whats happening! This is treatable for sure. I use either valbazen or Ivermectin pour on (its for cattle actually) for deworming. Rotate annually to help prevent parisites becoming resistant. Have noticed lately Valbazen is harder to find. Looks like tapeworm.

Is anyone going (or has anyone attended in the past) to the Lebanon show? *Really* tempted to make the drive up there and spend the day - maybe have DD drive down from Purdue and meet me. For those who've been - are there generally birds available for sale, thinking maybe there would be a lot of birds ready to be moved with it being so close to the lifting of the ban and a long summer with restricted sales.......

I've been before. It is fun, the weather was terrible the time I went so I didn't hang around for super long. There were a lot of birds for sale and I would anticipate there being a ton this year. It was a lot of fun walking around seeing all of the show birds as well.

Are the birds for sale at the Lebanon show usually just show birds? Or is there a variety available? Is it reasonably safe to buy birds at a show?

I've had 2 flocks people were getting rid of in the past 2 weeks and both fell through. Then another person who's father had 25 chickens had who passed away

and he needed to just get rid of them so another person and I were going to split the flock. I have tried a few rescues but no one has any available. I have one lonely hen and a few chicks that are a month old. Does anyone know any other routes to take? I'm looking for Ameraucana, Wyandottes, EE's and Marans that are 5 months or older up. Anyone on here selling any? 3 of my baby chicks are clearly roosters so I'm only looking for the ladies. Thank you

Aw, thanks for the offer! Columbus is pretty far for me, though.
Yeah, I think he's a Brahma. It should become more clear as he grows if he's pure or not, but there's definitely some Brahma there.

Yup, and they're BIG guys, too!

Someone shared this picture of one on Facebook the other day, a Light Brahma rooster. I may or may not now desperately want a Brahma for my flock...

My current barnyard flock roosters are a BCM and and a Brahma/EE cross--had the light Brahma pair, but the old cock went to chicken heaven (I assume he had been good). Love the breed--so gentle and regal.

What a wonderful tribute to Frou-Frou! And Crashie's pictures always make me smile--such a happy-looking duck.

The Lebanon show is my "must go" show. It's a large show with waterfowl, other poultry, and the junior show all in different buildings. The sales pavilion is an open shelter, and many vendors set up outdoor sales areas at their vehicles as well. I've seen exhibitors from as far away as New York state. With Michigan, Ohio, and Kentucky shows cancelled, it's likely to be even bigger than usual. Definitely worth the drive!
I hope to have a few birds ready to show--hadn't concentrated on keeping them show-ready this year because thought all was cancelled. Between molts and broodies, don't know who might be decent.

I might have some BCMs and EEs in a few weeks if you don't find anything before then. Probably will be taking them to the Lebanon show; I do outside sales from my truck.

All qualities. Always check birds over carefully and quarantine them after purchase. Even if the bird is healthy at the time, it has been exposed to others in the sales area and to people who have handled other chickens.

Crop & worming ?s

OK so I gave the flock Wazine in water today & will follow up next week with another de-wormer.

Now for my sick Cuddles:
She's overall stopped eating & drinking. Maybe a tiny peck at some scrambled egg.
She's sometimes making the open beak "yawns" like a crop problem. Also eating noises of her beak chewing (opening & closing quickly like when eating)
Walking very, very slowly. Lethargic.
I fear she's starving, so what next?

Could worms cause a crop problem? Should I tube feed some water with wazine & wait to see what happens?
OR
Should I try olive oil, massage & tilt to test for sour crop? (Again, she has no bad odor, so I hesitate in her weakened state.) The crop is flat, soft / squishy due to not eating.

The flock has never been wormed b/c I thought occasional garlic, AC Vinegar, & pumpkin seeds was all that were needed. After research, I'm sure Cuddles may have worms, but I'm unsure if that's all she has. Last egg was mis-shaped & exactly one week ago.

Thanks in advance for any help.

I am sold out for this year, so sorry.

Tube feeding into her crop may be the short term option. its pretty easy to do, important to be sure you are down the throat and avoid the orifice in the tongue or she could aspirate. May very well be worms with the wet season we have had. There is a worm called gape worm that will cause a yawning effect. lots of info on the web about them.
