Sorry about your Roo, That is so sad

It's always hard to lose one, especially under those circumstances.

Fortunately I'm awaaay back from the road, so my concerns are the varmints, though I have "security by Simon." Simon is my collie who takes his job very seriously. Not all of my birds free range; I keep my breeders and show stock penned but still have a yard full pecking away. My polish are penned except for Ol' Straggly, who is of uncertain age and has lost most of his crest, so he can see okay. I have a 2 yo blue polish roo that I'm about to let out of his coop, as he attacks me whenever I feed; maybe he needs to take his chances with my other roos. If anyone nearby would like to deal with him and his partner (a white crested black hen with a few years on her), you're welcome to them!

My poor birds have been dealing with the mud also. I had tarps over most of the pens, but they came down in the snow and I couldn't get them back up because the snow was so heavy on them. So this week it's all melted and I've had a *#%& virus and been lucky to get the feeding done, let along do damage repair.

Moved my pygmy goats into a 13 x 16 chicken pen so that they can go into the building; there's one section with nobody else in it right now. They were so miserable in the mud that they didn't even want to come down off their play stands to eat. The mud had even washed into their little shed.

Haven't tried putting straw over the mud; wonder if cypress mulch would help any.

Do you think they would take the chicken crossing sign serious? Hope they would, but people like that don't seem to care about anything but themselves.

Well I think the locals would. And people that know we actually have chickens. But as far as people just passing by that normally dont use our road might not take them serious at first until they see all of our chickens. You know what I mean? LOL
