INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

I have some BYM I need to get rid of. Also 2 lavender barred Muscovy if Janet doesn't want them. And an adult black Muscovy drake split to lav/choc iirc.
I don't mind extra Muscovy. If they are hens, @racinchickins wants to add some more lavender ducks also! Also @ellymayRans is interested in lavender scovy hens.

Its been crazy busy around here and I dont get a chance to check the board very often. My youngest son (6) came down with strep on Christmas Eve, then my youngest daughter who turns 9 today fell at her grandma's on Christmas Day and broke her finger. So I spent part of both days in the ER.

In chicken news, I'm still hatching chicks

. I have some hatching today. After every group I tell my husband no more until Spring, then someone comes along and takes every one I have. Same with the rabbits. I havent been able to hold any back for myself yet lol.

Ive managed to build 3 new coops/pens all by myself! I am seriously terrified of power tools so this is major to me

Ive also started the process to become NPIP certified.

I hope you all have a wonderful, safe, Happy New Year!

Super busy! Sorry about the finger and the fall, ouch. And strep is so awful! WTG on coop building

So when do ya'll start separating for the breeding season? I have all my pens written down on paper, just wasn't sure when to actually start separating them to get them ready. I like to have chicks by the middle of March, so I am thinking the time is coming up very soon. I will probably have several quads, trios and pairs of silkies available once I separate if anyone is interested.
I usually start looking at who is here, and think about the breeds I have around the end of January.
Are they hardy, healthy and productive?
Is there anything I don't like about the breed?
Does egg production or bird sizes fit our dual purpose needs?
Is there enough interest in the breed to hatch it?
From there I put my breeders into coops. I want a full month before I start hatching to ensure pure eggs..
I don't set porous, small or irregular eggs either.
I also post often what I plan to offer and keep updated on our member list, lol!

The problem I seem to be having is that I seen it happen to my Cornish they dropped like flies I treated everyone... Everyone seemed fine for a month or two put the Cornish and brahmas/Dominique's in their outside(adult) pens and they start dieing again but I treated again or are treating again the cocci strain seems to be a strong one here the new birds doing just fine though they were from funnyfarmmom and were outside now they are inside a cage in the shed

Yup yup! ;)

Thank you everyone. The kiddos are all on the mend thankfully :).

Daskhan- Im glad the birds you got from here are still healthy. I was sorry to hear about the bunny. We havent had any illness here in birds or rabbits, just kiddos. Will freezing temps kill cocci in the ground? Hopefully you get a handle on it soon.

Life, work, home has just been super busy..SMH
I did want to jump on and say happy New Year to my lovely BYC family! !

Sharing my awesome xmas gift from my DH! ;)
A heated brooder! I have 6 silkie chicks i hatched out back in October that were in the living room in a box under a heat lamp. They now have a mansion! haha!
I love it! Food and water troughs are on the outside which is just as awesome!
Of course my dog watching over them since 1 of our cats thinks its cute to stick his paw in through the feeder holes. Caught him shoulder deep the other day! Ha!
I will be building a tall base for it since currently it's just sitting on part of the box it came in.
Its suppose to hold up to 100 chicks. For bantams these guys will be happily housed til spring I'm sure.

As far as I know the cold + wet is what causes it to "bloom" so only a winter thing? Bunny died from the fall I think rest hasn't really been outside however my Houdini ran right to their cage today hopefully he didn't transfer something
