Quote: consensus seems to be difficult to find. I'd say the main problem would be keeping the pheasants from flying off.

Quote: I know she broods them together. Pheasant are good pop up fliers like quail, so if the top is open, they will leave. The noise I have heard is a short grinding type squeak, no where near loud as a rooster. like a squeaky bearing in a trailer wheel, lol.
Quote: Ok thanks!

It was warm enough today I was almost too hot in my overalls! DH was off, and we started clearing all the fallen trees on the property. We walked the 5 acres and noted where the remaining Hawthorn trees are. Our goat buck, Bocephus will be enjoying some forage come spring, those nasty trees are in the unmanaged portion of our wooded area. We mapped out the next section of our pasture plans, I want my hogs to have late fall access to our garden plot. Also noted areas of the property needing more cleaning of my DFs 80 years of "collecting", ugh.
My Sumatra are laying very well, will post pictures of the group soon. We have a blue and a splash rooster over several blue splash and some black hens. Nice size cream colored eggs, low feed consumption. Will begin test hatches this week.
Lavender Orpington are still randomly laying, Chocolates are probably under a year old and are picking up. Laying is picking up for the Ameraucana. Naked Neck haven't resumed yet. Dark cornish are very slow on laying too. I think everyone's settled into their new coop arrangements! Hopefully will begin laying full speed soon. One Embden goose is on her first nest brooding! Going to be a busy spring.
