INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

A little over an hour ago my peas made a commotion honking and carrying on. I went out and found my white male like this! I can only assume an owl as a ground predator couldn't reach him.
The bleeding has stopped but he has puncture wounds on his neck, a patch gone on his head and nose bleeding.
I'm surprised it hit so early and with us right here with living room lights and such. He seems like he is going to be ok but a large area of his neck is raw.
That's scary! Hope your beautiful peacock recovers quickly.

@Mother2Hens I'm just sick for you over the loss of Lacey.
I hope to be hatching more Cochins soon so if you're interested just let me know. I also am waiting for eggs to hatch in hopes to hatch my mille fluer cochin roo some gals! Fingers crossed! ! That would put them not laying for quite awhile before i would be able to offer chicks from them though. 1 of the girls you sent home to me, i had hatched some of her eggs last year and 1 ended up frizzled from my cochins roo and now shes been laying the tiniest of blue eggs.

I took some of the eggs my broody was sitting because there were just too many for her to cover, i left her with 4 until the eggs im waiting for arrive, then im going to have her brood them.
Half of the eggs she was sitting on were layed by silkies, the others were from that frizzled blue egg layer. 1 hatched Saturday and so i put it in with the ducklings yesterday and LOL it was chasing them around begging for 1 of thise big fuzzy butts to let it slip under someone!! By this morning it was sitting asleep in the middle of the bunch!

These eggs are so tiny and pretty blue, hence of course a very tiny chick! It acquired its fathers (silkie) 5 toes, yellow with some blue skin but i cant tell if its a walnut or pea comb. I also cant tell yet if it will be sizzled feathering but the wing tips definitely appear to be curling outward. I like the excitement of not knowing yet. But oh so precious! Haha!

Tiny blue egg (frizzled olive egger: cochin/AM cross hen back to Frizzled cochin roo)

also i have a question almost everyday while driving home through the long country roads i see these rather large flocks of turkeys walking through the woods or different farmers feilds... rarely in the same spot so im assuming these are wild turkeys... now the question is i know its illegal to hunt them unless its turkey season but what about capture for raising or breeding purpouses?

well we get to take possession of the new place the 16th!!!!

2 more days and the WORK begins. Been waiting a long time for this.

As for the question I had about goats being able to eat ginseng and mushrooms, I did google it and got no answer, I found out that deer often eat mushrooms and ginseng is expensive and mostly likes to grow on northern slops. and it takes about 6 years to get it to a good crop size.
I found a large list of poisonous plants... they were all scientific names and way too many to look each one up, it would take me a month to look all those up. I found another list that had the chemical make ups of plants that were poisonous. I'm not a botanist, why cant google just say YES or NO. Simple and to the point!!

Ok stupid question I might have already asked.. To feed in the rain or not to... Ok I go out side to feed my dumb dumbs.. And they all come out screaming like ****** off parents... And they wait around in the rain and eat... In the rain.. Refuse to eat when food is placed inside the coops.. Now I feel like these dumb dumbs will get sick if this continues to happen so I think let's wait till rain stops.. One dumb dumb stands in rain looking like a drinched cat but that's better then all of them looking like drinched cats.. Oh I can't wait for my covered runs already lol you ever see a wet Rhode Island Red stair you down as you drive by to go to the store what an evil lil look they give

@Mother2Hens The certification isn't the same as going through Therapy dog training, that is even more advanced and the dog has to pass a Therapy Dogs International Test test whereas our dog is just going to take the American Kennel Club’s Canine Good Citizen test. Therapy dogs have to earn titles in order to be placed in homes. We just wanted him to be able to go into places and visit with people (like hospitals, nursing homes, schools, etc) to help them de-stress and hopefully cheer up. He loves meeting new people and is so sociable.

I watched a cousin's beagle on Saturday and wore them both out. We were outside all day! Fantastic weather.

Spring is in the air here! The bees were out and even collecting pollen from the trees, narcissus and daffodils. If you look at the bee in the lower right, you can see the light yellow pollen she is carrying on her back legs. This is their food, and so grateful they aren't starving so far this year!

The peacock also knows it is spring and has started his mating call. I find him dancing all the time for his lady.

thanks that actually has a list for non-botanist like me... thank you. I book marked the site so I could use it for other things as well.

Are you wishing for them to eat it - or not eat it?

This article from PSU says that Deer will eat it though not "preferred"..... so I"m thinking goats will too.
I don't care if they do or not? Just never had it before and didn't want to kill my goats if they did.... could just see me out there digging all that up. lol but looks like I wont have to. I just have to ease them into the new foods slowly. They don't have all that woodsy stuff here.

@jchny2000 I found that same article, it was 1 of the ones that confused me more than anything... lol

Thank you all for taking the time to help me get an answer, I feel better now.
