INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

Love the picture! That is wonderful of you to go to that effort to have a nice, trained dog and to be able to help others. I've been in a hospital waiting room and have seen people's faces light up when a therapy dog visited. As you know, the dogs love it, too. [rule]@chick rookie ~ Harvesting ginseng is a big business, so I wouldn't spread the word—especially because greedy people harvest young plants, which can destroy the ginseng population. There have been a couple of reality shows about "ginseng hunters," and that has caused ignorant people to think they can get rich quick. And that can lead to crazy people trying to steal your ginseng! Not trying to scare you, but make you aware. Train your goat to attack! Haha There are also "mushroom hunters" lol, but they don't make as much money. I saw the show "Filthy Riches" last year where a people searched for large mushrooms called chicken-of-the-woods and hen-of-the-woods. They sold them to gourmet restaurants. DD took an Edible Plants class last semester. They had a camping trip and had to find their dinner. She found a chicken-of-the-woods! Haha [rule]@ellymayRans ~ So this frizzled mom is my former granddaughter once removed—or something like that?! Haha So her mom (the one that was part Cochin and part Maran, who layed green eggs) had this frizzle who lays tiny blue eggs?! You said: Tiny blue egg (frizzled olive egger: cochin/AM cross hen back to Frizzled cochin roo) What is AM? This little bull of your Mom's is the cutest thing!
The girl you returned layed a slightly green egg, cochin/Ameraucana, cochins would normally lay a cream to very light brown. I hatched one of her green eggs and her being bred back to a cochin lightened the egg color making it more blue, cochin roo is frizzled. Hence a frizzled blue egg layer..wait it wasnt the AM (Ameraucana) the father of your previous was a AM/Marans roo...it was the young cockeral that was an olive egger that got to my cochin girl. Sorry that was confusing. I had forgotten! ! Oh and didnt get a pic but i got to see a 2nd calf be born today! Little girl. Sooo cute.

Busy day again tomorrow. @Indyshent
please don't make the drive up, I will be gone all day. Moms Dialysis Fistula is plugged and she is due for bloodwork.
Lost a young goose hen this morning, she HAD to scale the fence to get out. DH found her hit by a car around 5am.. I am just sick over it.. My geese have never got out of the pen at night. now we've lost 2 in a week :hit .I rarely loose a goose, for any reason. More eager than ever to move them to our pasture. Appears to be the younger goose hens getting out.
7 eggs from my Sumatras coop, wow! They are becoming my best layers for the chicken breeds.

That's horrible! I'm so sorry

Saw my peacocks displaying for the first time yesterday. They don't care to go outside, so they stand in the barn doorway where there is some light. One took the stage and then the other. I only got a picture of the second partially displaying because DH came up the driveway then in his car and all the peas hightailed up into the rafters.

And since I'm at it. Here are the pigs. I believe the larger one is over 200lbs now. Hard to believe they weren't even 40lbs in December!

Oh my, your hogs are looking great!
My peacock is strutting nonstop. The hen seems uninterested, possibly too young yet.
Ok so since there was so much response to my ignorant question I don't really feel like quoting everyone I greatly apologize if I offended anyone.. I come from a state that almost everything is extent(exaduration) and I never kept turkeys never really thought about it before, and only wanted to do good... I don't kill my animals I only breed them for preservation and to help others find them.. My turkey thought was just a whim because I thought they were in trouble(guess not) and if it was up to me and no offense again if I were to ever get a hunting liscence I'd prefer to be able to capture it rather then kill it because in my mind i would be saving the animal. If later on I get the whim again to think about helping a turkey population out I'll research else were before asking my stupid questions here so as to not offend anyone..

There are no stupid questions here. Many of us just don't condone taking wild life for personal use and gain. There are several heritage breed turkeys that are much better choices, and legally domesticated.
I don't have the time at the moment to go back and read posts, but I just had to share this picture! Indi, Marka, and Winter say good night!

Just precious.

My Hampshire piglets left to their new home tonight. I almost cried, they were pretty awesome. The buyer was impressed how social they are. I introduced my Boar Oreo and the Mother Doublestuff also. My extra Muscovy drakes leave tomorrow.
Just worn out, and off to bed.

[Responding to Indyshent's post]
You know after reading this post I almost cried.. I watered up lol at work non the less lol know idea anyone noticed any of that stuff thank you for taking notice.. And aww love you too lol I'm actually in the process of rebuilding all my coops.. I'm switching to a green fire farm copy with tweeks I will take everything you have said into consideration and try to find that breed of turkey that is my match that I can help save.. I've been searching all over to find the chickens for my match this year we will be up to8-10 pens next year we might double that.. Still looking for a second farm/bigger farm to add more breeds to it I've contacted many top line breeders for advice and pointers and I think I'm reaching the point of no longer calling myself a newbie and my wife is accepting the fact they arnt going anywhere.. Baby loves the warmer weather she came outside today for the first long venture outside.. And green fire farms have said I can come back and visit anytime I want shhhhh no one tell them I'm copying their designs lol ... Well when you post pictures online I'm sure you should expect it lol
I'm glad I have my online extended family if anyone is interested in on Facebook more often now with my Kelevra farms page up I'm going to be trying to focus on that as well and remember if anyone needs help with anything feel free to message me I spent 60-70 percent of everyday doing research for myself or someone else.. Turkeys and ducks and rabbits are new ventures for me.... Next are pigs cows and goats lol cows are probably not going to make it past the drawing board but good to know atleast
In my response, I said that I could tell you were just curious—and that's a good thing! My parents always told me to, "Question Everything—That's how you learn." There is SO much to learn about one species—like chickens. I've had them for four years now, and I've learned a lot from this thread and also by reading books and online info. However, there is still so much to learn! And more money to lose—lol. I just wish that the odds of poultry getting sick wasn't so high. That's the really frustrating part, and I especially hate to think of them suffering from parasites, bad bacteria, viruses, etc.

Where do you live? I might be sneaking over...
@racinchickins Are your peacocks from the rescue? They're just beautiful! And your pigs look so CLEAN—especially after all of the rainfall lately.

Added 2 more silkies to the hatch tally today. 1 black and 1 partridge. The black is still drying and the partridge, well adorable of course!!!

I have 2 incubators pretty full, and new eggs under the broody.
8 more duck eggs, 7 turkey eggs (mixed), the silkie and blue frizzled eggs along with some Splash Marans, I don't have high hopes for the Marans eggs because I recvd. them pretty banged up. I slipped the Mille fleur Cochin eggs under my broody and they threw in a few splash or paint silkie eggs. I put those in the bator too.

@racinchickins & @jchny2000
My peahen didn't show any interest either and shocked me when i saw them mating by chance one day. If i weren't home a lot i don't know if I would have! That was sometime in early April. I found her first egg 4/20 last season.

Still some trim work to do, but essentially this is coop 2.0. Not my finest construction work, but I think it's quite suitable for some chickens, lol.

Lots of interior work as well. Leaving the option open of putting in a couple windows, but the eves are open, as is the ridge cap, and the gambrel break you can see the vented soffit in there as well. It pulls a lot of air through, i'm really impressed with how much actually, and the door can easily be propped open as well, so we will see.

As it is, there it is. Now I need to build the rollout nest boxes, and the door from human to bird areas will actually be a swinging bunk feeder that should hold 50-100 pounds of feed. Cold snap coming next week, but I still think I will be able to move the chicks out there with the lamp once I get dividing wall sorted.

Wind and rain came through around 2 this morning, I was curious to see if it held it's own, the entire interior was dry as a bone, even in that wind no rain made it through any of the vented areas, so that was a big boost to the confidence. Now let's just hope it doesn't blow away today.
