INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

I wanted to say Thank you again to all of the people here in this group who have helped me out the past 6 months. I greatly appreciate all that this group has done for me. I know I did not get thank you cards sent out but I really really do appreciate every thing that has been done and is being done for me.
And while I miss my birds, I am extremely grateful for those of you that took them to their new homes and for those of you that made turkey dinners of a few. Thank you all very very much.

Hugs and hang in there!

Finally got the run done today. As nice as the next week is supposed to be I wanted the little ones to be able to get some outside time, let the bigger birds see them, and all that.

They had no interest in actually visiting the big scary outside, but at least the run is done.

Looking awesome! Nice big run for them too.

:hugs Hugs and hang in there!

Ditto @SallyinIndiana! I have to say so many have proven to be just great at heart, helping each other with pen builds, transporting coops, taking in birds, family issues, rescues. ..you name it and someone or many have stepped up! So many sweet tales! Love this group! ! Honestly feel like I've known many of you my whole life!

To @jchny2000, your post in regards to cutting back and others continuing on the forum, well you best not go anywhere! ;)

I ended up keeping 4 (for now) in hopes of having a keeper pullet.
Here's the one that I brought in to snuggle last night. 4.5 weeks old.

I'm guessing pullet (Do you agree?)
They pretty much all look like this. The one one with the wider crest in the other pic was sold. The woman liked it b/c it was different.

Looks like it could be a pullet. Sometimes the crest will start to widen as they get a little older. Watch for wattles and hackle feathers.

All that comes to mind to describe my day...had a bad day!!

I hate sharing losses of what i cant help but feel like neglect on my part, but....called my neighbors this morning to give her a heads up i may be seen wandering their woods as my turkey hen hadn't came home. I stayed up til 5am because my dog wouldn't come in and was barking up a storm all through the night, in the woods etc...
So i went on a further search and found a pile of feathers where her nest must have been!

Crazy part of the story. ... now my dog never did come in..i finally passed out, woke up at 10am. ..see 2 turkey eggs side by side on my deck, weird, walk out front to start my hunt, 2 more turkey eggs right off the drive, next to my truck. ..then see my dog with 3 more but only shells.. He was bringing them all home as she had been killed. Something killed her and had eaten some of the eggs, the 4 on the deck and in the front were unscathed! He's part Lab with a very soft mouth when retrieving! Seriously blew my mind!

Now how he spent all night out there and didn't prevent her death is beyond me but those eggs went straight to the bator.

Thank goodness my other 2 girls seem to be laying in the same nest that I'm gathering from and they are not trying to brood them any longer. .or for now.

Then bummed one of the bronze hatches died.?? Just found it dead in the brooder.

Did have a little fun, threw together a large netted area so the ducklings could hang out with us all day under some small oaks. Kids had a snow day so no school, several neighborhood kids over playing in the creek and on the trampoline, neighbor brought her twin granddaughters over to sit with the ducklings for a bit. Wrapped up with a good evening! Few drinks with DH and first baseball games of the season in the morning!

What a gorgeous day! Sinuses are not as happy with it though!
Hate aging!!!

I've finally had some good hatches with my coolerbator, have the kinks all worked out. (I hope)

6 out of 7 of my silkies hatched 4/7 and 4/8. Then 3 out of 3 Midget white turkeys hatched this week. All 3 turkeys hatched 2 days early!

I have a mixture of some silkies and MGB to go into lockdown tomorrow, Sat. They were supposed to go today, Friday, but I messed up my dates. Hopefully one extra day in the turner won't hurt. I have a dozen or so MW eggs set to hatch over the next 2 weeks. My first dozen LO eggs go into the bator tomorrow! My roos are a little young but I've seen them attempting their job with the hens, so hoping for good fertility.

My turner holds 28 eggs, I may be able to squeeze a few more in, so I've been setting 7-10 eggs at a time with a hatch planned every week for a while here. One coolerbator is the "incubator" because I engineered the turner to fit it. The other is my "hatcher" that I put the eggs in for lockdown.

If anyone is looking for some very nice pet quality partridge silkie chicks PM me. My adults came from BradS and kabhyper1. I'm not keeping this first batch, I have a dozen or so 2 month olds growing out!

Nah not going anywhere, love our thread too much and so many good friends! Just getting older and need to be real about what I have going on. I downsized breeds, and am penning them up. Between Great Horned Owl, Fox and Racoon we just can't free range openly anymore. Once Everyone is confined a few weeks I will let groups out daily.

Poults are hard up to the first week, I usually won't even consider selling until they are at least 3 days old. Its so heartbreaking to lose one

what precious little lifes they are. Predator issues here too. I am down to 4 Guinea, all boys. They were the last to be penned. Thankfully have very few eggs in the incubator. I am hoping a few of the hens are brooding nests but honestly doubt it. Not seen any hens in 3 days coming to eat.
