INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

I just use regular rubber boots but there is this pair on Amazon that I really like!
I have already bought these in RED

I have a friend that lives not too far from me that got a new batch of chicks this year. @Jiffy4357 is a byc member but hasn't been on in a long time.

One of her new chicks is a Jersey Giant and she is wondering if "she" might be a "he". I'm encouraging her to come join us on the Indiana thread and post some photos of the kiddos. Maybe someone with JG experience will be able to give an opinion. I haven't see "her/him" so the photos will be new to me too.

So... hoping she'll stop in and post!

Well... I'm in the doghouse. I've never had chicken math turn out quite like this before. Must have been the combination of extreme frustration, headache, goodwill to others, being a sucker, uber-press for time and super cuteness that really screwed all ability at basic math today...

I came home this afternoon with six more heritage turkey poults and apparently spent into money my husband had reserved (without my knowledge at all) for a camping trip this weekend. I feels so horrible

Ouch. Sending hugs! Been there too! I have learned the hard way to discuss money with DH daily. Communication is huge, everyone needs to just speak out. He leaves budgeting up to me and I do all the finances for my parents also. I am really determined to budget when it comes to money. DH isn't so I watch things close, lol.
I make sure all necessary things are met and paid for daily living and secured debts. We leave friday to campground and I have already planned expenses for the weekend.

She is absolutely welcome to post and discuss.

I had 104 posts to read. It's been a long week.

I left last week and went to Louisville for the NRA convention over the weekend to continue my job search Mostly it was networking with industry friends, and being seen, but some decent stuff, so hopefully something turns on that front sooner rather than later.

I returned home Sunday late morning, and by Sunday night, I was in the ER. I was then in the hospital until noon yesterday, having my appendix out, and dealing the subsequent infection. So, I'm home now, but all but on couch duty, so i'm glad I got the garden in before I left for Louisville, and the new grape/berry arbor/trellis up as well. I'm pretty limited until next Wednesday on what I can do, then I have my post-op follow-up, so we will see.

Integration of the littles to the bigs seems to have been a success. The roll-out nest boxes are being used without hesitation now, and aside from normal chicken stuff, there's no fighting.

Now, If I just didn't feel like a big ball of blah, all would be well. Beautiful week and weekend upcoming, and the boat will be in the garage the whole time. Frustrating.

Just wondered if anyone has a special feed mix they get from Honeyville for a mixed flock. We are very happy with Honeyville and have been using the non gmo and organic. We are hoping to find a mix without soy. THANKYOU for any input.

@Crista
When I first started with chickens I had Honeyville make me a special feed with no soy and I had them use Fertrell rather than the one they use. It was organic and very basic. They had a minim of 300 lbs so I split the order with another person.

After awhile I just decided to mix my own so that it wasn't going rancid sitting around. After grains are ground they begin to go rancid so I don't like to make up more than about 2 weeks worth at a time and I only had 6 chickens so my part of the feed lasted for a long time.

Anyhow...
I now just buy the 50 lb bags of the grains and grind smaller amounts at a time using my mom's Vitamix which is great for grinding grain. If I was doing it for a larger number of chickens I'd either get a better mill or just go ahead and have them grind for me I suppose. But they'd have to do my recipe :)
