INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

Hello and good day everyone. Hope all is well

I want to thank everyone for their kind words and prayers thru the tough times that was ahead. Well after I posted my last post, Hubby and I sat down to have a long talk about everything.
Im happy to say, we have decided that we do not want to go on with the divorce

. I do though, have to down size a little on the ranch but I can still keep, yay.
Also, on top of that news. I would seriously like to give a huge heads up to northwest Indiana owners. On Election Day, I had 3 of my ducks come up stolen. There were no tail signs to assume wild life was in pinned up area (tall fencing/ dog run), no feathers nor a single drop of blood in sight, nor in the woods, nor at either neighbors property. Which made me assume they were stolen. With that said, I took video of a vehicle that was casing our property. After that day, it was silent vibes for me until Saturday afternoon/early evening. The same exact vehicle comes back to post up in my neighbors driveway, which were he parked my ducks were right there a few feet away. This flock mother dashed out the door as if I was on fire with video fully rolling and confronted this vehicle. The older man completely admits that he has came to this residents twice, that he is lost but yet lives just down the road from me. Grrr. I'm unable to send the video for it's too large of file but even the county deputy said it sounded to fishy for him to be lost. He had two hunting dogs with him, plus was wearing camo gear. On top of it, my dad is best friends with a neighbor who lives two doors down from him, best friend's wife said he has been taking his dogs in the woods for training on top they had one duck come up missing samething, no feather blood just gone. Be on the looookout for this man around your birds. I'm sure he does not want for pets

. Grrrr. I understand hunting is hunting a way if life but stealing someone else's birds out of their own yard, not cool in my book.
If you want to make your video smaller and accessible, just forward it to youtube. When it's been converted, you can copy and paste the link in a message, email, etc. 3 Ways to Upload a Video to YouTube - wikiHow You certainly took a nice, clear picture of the suspect. Were you able to verify that he actually lived down the road from you?

Hey all! Haven't been on in awhile, been busy with the holidays and the house. I am looking for guidance on "health certification " or "CPIP" for my hens. I got a wild feather up my butt, and was considering entering my three chicks that I've raised in the State Fair next year. Firstly, what is "CPIP", and secondly, how do I go about getting it? If anyone else has shown in the fair, a rundown of how it goes and what to expect would be appreciated as well. I've flipped through the 2016 rules, but it's a lot to process when you've never done it before haha. TIA!

Another poult tried hatching yesterday but needed some help. It's very weak. Something had bust inside the egg, and there was blood everywhere. Little Thanksgiving could really use the company, so if you're so inclined, please pray for this little one. Not sure how much stuff is supposed to be hanging off the baby's belly, but it looks bad

I was in the basement sorting through my rock collection, and I let the girls assist. It was past their bedtime—I've often kept them up past their normal chicken hours..
@Mother2Hens and @ellymayRans

Is this breed known for being broody? If so, I may just have to get myself a couple!

(But...I won't be giving them a bedroom complete with bed and pillows....

If only I had the space to run such an elaborate bed and breakfast for my girls! Honestly I started with them for brooding along with Silkies but I've only raised a few hens and only 1 of 3 ever went broody. Those are small stats but they are known to be. I also always separate for breeding most times they were laying and gathering eggs to hatch myself. They are soooo easily imprinted and I love that about them so I prefer to hatch.

Another poult is trying to hatch. Neither of these recent babies is very strong. Both seem to be unusual colors, so I can't wait to see how they're going to turn out! The older bronze poult isn't all that nice to the older of these new babies (the youngest isn't even out of the egg yet--could flop out any time it feels like but hadn't yet when I left this morning) so I've been trying to put a bunch of space in there for the new baby to hide and lots of toys and frozen veggies for the older one to peck at. Good news is that he's teaching the baby to peck at food and eat; bad news is that he's occasionally pecking at the baby's eyes. Hasn't really hurt the baby yet, but it's frustrating and worrisome. It's back end seems much better today. Belly had been a dark red-purple color yesterday. Cleaned off the umbilical parts yesterday and put Neosporin on it, but the baby really wasn't happy with me.

Middle baby is a strawberry blond color. Wondering if it's a Bourbon. Not sure how a buff color like it would show up. Will have to wait and see.

The youngest seems a gray color so far. Going to have to wait more on it, but it seems really unusual from what I can see. Might dry a perfectly normal bronze (which is what I was expecting).

Going to toodle around more on Porter's genetics color calculator and see what I can come up with. The babies are more likely to be Syd's (a Bourbon hen) because Sweetie (the white Holland) hasn't been laying for quite some time now. Sweetie's still broody and sitting on a bunch more of Syd's (and possibly some of the Black hens' eggs). They seem to be developing, but sadly, I can't let her raise them because she squishes them.

Here's a better pic of the ducklings now that I've moved the shells. I hated to disturb them all sound asleep. So precious! The 1 is all yellow with 2 smudges of brown on its head, 1 chocolate barred but seems like Drake as it's quite a bit bigger than the others. Then 2 wild type, 1 Pied and 1 solid chocolate.

I believe they are all chocolates. Time will tell for the wild types. All just turned out beautiful!
